I have decided on the 7 SAUM as my next bolt gun to build as I don’t have a 7mm in my arsenal yet.

I plan to use a big horn orgin action as it’s proven and priced well. What length action would you recommend? I’m thinking I need a LA just to take advantage of the 180 grain projectiles.

I am not positive but thinking I would go medium if I did it again. I built on a sa a few years ago mainly because I didn’t want the long and the chassis I wanted wasn’t available in medium. I am shooting 168 vld at .030 off and that is basically mag length.

I have a 7 max pushing 190 bergers just under 3000.
In a defiance anti xm action.
Xlr element 4.0 magnesium chassis
Brass dies bullets go with it if interested
Load development done with n570.

^I have a couple in 6.5 max - cartridge is solid, just don't chase the Sherman hot numbers and be happy. If you want more juice, go WSM or Sherman Mega in a Tikka or medium as well.

Yeah im happy with the velocity! I think advertised velocities are a touch optimistic in those chambering! Im about to start load development on my 20" 6.5 max over the holidays! With 156 bergers. Pm me load data if you have anything to share!

Going from scratch I would do medium, if you have a donor action then maybe not. Realistically with heavier 7mms you will be in the 3.1” range. I have 7-300wsm and 284/6.5-284 variants closer to 3.2” and those work well in medium. Your main downside is less stock/chassis options but enough exist now.
