700 adl

This may have been asked before but I couldn't find anything with the search box here. Is the adl a good starting point for a precision rig? Meaning barrel and twist rate etc... I will would be putting it in a mcs t5a chassis but keeping the barrel until it is shot out. It is a varmint contour chambered in .308, thanks for any info.

This is an excellent starting point for a precision rig. I have the ADL Varmint and it shoots 175 grain Sierra's and Berger's just fine out to 600 yards (as far as I can get to shoot). If you get a Timney trigger along with the MCS and a decent scope you'll be set-up...

That's exactly what I was wanting to see!!! Is yours a .308? The one I have is in fact from dicks as well. I guess now all I need is a trigger and stock... Thanks

Yes, it is a .308. I have not cut the barrel. Had the barrel threaded for a suppressor and am shooting an AAC "Cyclone". I took the action out, sold the stock and scope. Replaced the trigger with a Jewell and dropped it into a B&C A-5 fully adjustable tactical stock. Using a Harris bi-pod and shooting FGMM 175's.

I'm 64 years old. You can probably do a whole lot better on a more consistent basis.

yea, it can be a good starting point. If you are putting it into a T5A with a chassis you will likely have an excellent shooter. It will be a 12 twist, so the 208 grain type bullets 'may' not work for you, but there are so many good options out there that shouldn't stop you from starting. It is the same barrel and action as the SPS-V - just a different stock. The throat is LONG on these in general - so getting the right bullet/load combination 'may' be a bit more work. May not be.... It's a factory Remington, so you never know. Most reports seem to be good recently. I put mine in an AICS 1.5 and spent more on the scope than the rifle.

Mine loves the Berger 185 VLD target loaded to the lands - way to long for a magazine but I am single loading for F T/R anyway. Holds well under an inch at 100 (closer to .5) and requires 3.7 mil to 600 yards. Am working on some magazine length loads with bullets more tolerant of jump. Have also played with 155 Lapua and they also group very, very well also (well under an inch) but again they are a bit long for the magazine the way my rifle likes them the best.

Some things I've noticed with mine - for the first 300 rounds I killed a smurf every time I cleaned up. A lot of copper, and you could feel the bore being rough with the cleaning rod. Has smoothed out and not as much copper now. Accuracy got better after 250 rounds - or I did. Either way I'm happy with it. Trigger isn't great - replacing it this week. Other than that? Very happy.

The adl is a blind mag. Otherwise its the same as any other 700 reciever. You can make it mag fed without any modifications.

Can you get that stock in a blind mag type bottom? If so, cool. Otherwise your buying drop metal.

The only other "hurdle" might be the twist rate....but if it stabilizes your preferred rounds, your good.

Remember the ADL and BDL mag boxes are different height, so if you change you might need another mag box. If you do, I'll buy your ADL mag box, spring and follower. I need one for my son's 243 youth BDL I'm putting in an ADL stock. Thanks!
