700 LTR a good choice? upgrades?

Asking wiser folks than I before I throw down the money.

Looking for a decent 308 rig that I can have fun training with at the range putting tons of rounds through(not some 6.5lb tikka that would hurt) but light enough to carry hunting.

This seems to hit the sweet spot and is available in left hand to boot! What you folks think?

Does this package come ready to, I know the stock should be great as its HS precision but any things I should add right away besides a better bolt knob?

three of my buddies have LTRs, all chambered in .308. all of them shoot VERY well right out of the box with factory match ammo and the rifle is light and handy and doesnt abuse you when shooting it. i'd say go for it. by very accurate, i mean to say we have taken all three rifles out to 600 yds with about 1/2moa being fairly common depending on the shooter doing there part, using FGMM and HSM ammo match ammo.

I have had 3 LTRs, all of them shot/shoot well. 223, 308, 300RSAUM.

I had a LTR that shot 3/4" MOA and it was great, sold to a friend and I miss it very much....but ended up purchasing a Remington SPS Tactical in .308 and have it apart now for my own build up, will be my summer project:

I have a LTR in 308. Compared to the 5R the LTR is much better (lighter, handier) for hunting and shoots around 1/2 MOA on paper. Very good choice.

I just purchased an LTR see below...... Great rifle and very accurate, but do not shoot M80 ball ammo! It does not like it at all or at least mine doesn't. Everything else works fine.

Stay with match grade 168 or 175 and you'll love it. Wish Id never gotten rid of it!

LTR is a great rifle if you will leave it alone. If you are going spend money on it, I would upgrade the trigger before a bolt knob. Other than that it is a great little package ready to go.

If you are planning to change the stock and what not in the future, buy an SPS and save some money.

The LTR is one of the best all-around rifles you can get. A barrel thick and heavy enough to be accurate, yet short enough to be handy. Excellent choice.

no brainer then thanks folks- seems Ive found the gun that will do it all from hunting to medium range practice- and as a bonus theres even some improvements I get to do.... I talked to somebody he said he hasnt seen a left hand LTR in 5 years. Im thinking this is one of those gets that I just cant pass up even though I already have my 1 centerfire.....Im mid build with my m1a new barrel, trigger job etc but this is too good to pass up might have to sell the parts and scrap it.


What rail do I put on this thing now?

It's pretty much the standard for a 308. Still zeroes at 100 yds with no problems and lets you stretch out to a grand easily. I have seen some use a 0 moa base but only because there scope mount had 20 moa built in

Same with me. I have been shooting mine for about 14 years now, still holds 1/2 moa with 168 SMK or Amax. Changed out the stock trigger for a Timney, she shoots great and has been a good solid gun out to 800 yards.

Good choice for your intended purpose. Mine holds 3/8 moa at 100 with good ammo. Also good comp. gun out to around 800 yds. On the matter of 20 moa base, make sure your scope is long range type. I have seen several cases where guys couldn't get a 100 yd zero. some had to go to a 300 yd. zero due to the scope they had with a 20 moa base. Just saying!
