$7000 +ar15=American Gun's AR10?

I know we bash SOG all the time on here. Last night, I turned on the tv and watched American Guns. A chick walked in and had them make/build an ar10. She traded an ar15 plus $7000 for what he quoted was a $10000 project. She wanted an ar10+(I think it was an LMT) railed grenade launcher.

Any one else watch it? What was your opinion?

I kind of feel like that it is a requirement to get ass raped when you walk into that shop and deal with that clown and his idiots. I mean come on, really Princess fake-boob Barbie uses spray paint to put a finish on your gun. Please, for that kind of price, it had better come cerekoted or something.

My wife asked why I cancelled the recording on our DVR. My response was, "Its not about guns. It has nothing to do with guns. Its a soap opera with a few guns as props. I'm not interested in the least!"

Yeah, $10K seemed over the top to me too. Even with a Krieger cut/lapped barrel (not sure what it was, they never said) and what looked like billet upper/lower (Mega?), seems like he still should have turned a nice profit at half that price.

What is always annoying is the 37mm "grenade" launcher. SoG did it on the zombie build, and now this. 37mm is just flares and smoke, maybe CS. Explosive rounds only come in the 39mm flavor. Yet somehow the 37mm always make quite the bang...

Anybody that walks into that store knows how overpriced everything is. If they willingly pay for it then you really can't get mad at Rich and you can't feel bad for the buyer. I agree that the show is ridiculous and will inevitably give good gun smiths a bad rep but anybody stupid enough to pay exorbitant prices just to get their 15 minutes of fame deserves to get financially raped.

That shop is only a few blocks from me, I want to walk in and see if I can get $5k + for an AR10, I have a multi-cam custom one, granted no $350 37mm grenade launcher but still...

Her trade in looked like a POF, still, it was robbery, I wish someone knows her from the Austin area to ask her if they really charged $10k.

At best 5000 for rifle and good glass. M203 is roughly 2000 and up plus 200 bucks for tax stamp. Overall yeah I can see is costing about 8 or 9 but not 10k.

That was a Spike's 37mm which is $350... the logo was right on the side and it mounts right to the rail.

They sell there here locally at Machine Gun Tours in Lakewood...

So what I am guessing is that the gun should have sold for like 3k.

I am building a pof p308, and not even close 3k without glass. That is a piston, not a DI like she got. Plus, I have a geissele hnm group buy trigger in it. What a shame!

I saw that episode as well. Kinda confused though as to what the rifle was. It was definately a JP complete upper, but it did not have a top charge in addition to the side charge like the PSC-12 has so it wasnt that. The PSC-12 isn't available yet either. The JP LRP-07 upper only fits with a LRP-07 lower, so unless that was a JP lower, it wasnt that either. JP does sell a LR-308 upper that fits on DPMS lowers, but that is a top charge system which isnt what that was. Might have been a one off upper they had JP build or it was a complete LRP-07 without the JP markings on it. In which case she got totally screwed

I did the math last night its a bit high but really not much. Figure jp rifle, plus ior optic and mount, there is 4500.00 custom paint, engraving, docter optic and mount, cheeseball 37mm, magpul ubr, and a couple other belles and whistles, plus we dont know what the deal really was so my guess is gun plus 6 or 7.
I was a little miffed to but its not really that bad.

That shop is a half hour from my house but I really dont have a desire to go check it out, I am a green mountain guns guy threw and threw. Best shop in Denver hands down.

If gun stores have taught me anything it's I'll never go to one again. because after checking out 2 gun shows before and seeing the prices then remembering what i paid at a gun store. I just can see myself every going to a gun store again, when for like 30% less I can get the same stuff are a gun show.

It made me LOVE my .308 that I JUST finished tonight... I can tell you mine was only about $1300 TOTAL... but like LOWLIGHT said.. mine doesnt have a 37mm launcher either

It is funny that this topic has come up. That was the only American Guns episode I had ever watched and was really perplexed with the $9K AR. I noticed that the grenade launcher was Spikes by the big spider on it, but I couldn't place the AR. I know nothing about grenade launchers, so I assumed that $5K or $6K of the price was the grenade launcher.

What completely threw me off was the hunting rifles he bought from that guy. I can't believe those guns were worth $70K (he bought them for $50K from the guy). The one in 375 whatever looked like a Remington 700. I also didn't think that pre-64 Winchesters were that costly.

You guys know more about this stuff than I do, but were those rifles really worth $70K??? If I remember correctly not a single one of them even had scopes on them.

I don't know, the look on her face when he said $10k was pretty clear she thought it was a rip off too...

Maybe they adjusted it after the fact, but clearly she was walking away, not too thrilled with the numbers.

I live approx 60 min from the shop. Used them once about 5 yrs ago to repair a broken safety on an old pistol I was getting fixed for an old friend. They never called to let me know it was finished and then wondered why I took so long to come pick it up (maybe 2.5 months after drop-off and they told me 2-3 months). This after no one had a friggin clue what I was talking about when I called to inquire prior to driving down to town to see if the pistol was finished.
That and I was told that thumb break holsters for a 1911 are useless and I should go with one that uses a retention screw set-up. Coulda had my pistol out, 3 rds done, and reholstered before the guy showing me how fast his was coulda got his pistol out of that little holster. And I am kinda slow.
Havent been back since.

What the f**k, Iron Chef America, which makes a big deal of saying how they have 1 hour competition time to prepare the food, is actually shot over about 8-10 hours. All the food the judges eat is prepared in the back by someone else. Bottom line, almost none of the reality show bullsh*t is real. That's ok, as long as you know that when you're watching it doesn't really matter.

i just watched that episode and its pretty rediculous. a man walked in wanting a 20mm rifle built and was quoted at 17k. He brought in 25 guns to trade and ended up keeping an RPG and an AR15 and traded the rest straight up for the build. I nearly lost it considering some of the rifles had high end optics on it. Yeah its scripted but, seriously. do they even make a conscious effort to make it believable? eh just my rant and rave. Paige is pretty hot though so theres something i cant complain
