75 years ago today: The Doolittle Raid

30 Seconds Over Tokyo...I remember the book, written by one of the Pilots (Harry Lawson?) It was basically a suicide mission with barely enough fuel to get to China. The American command forgot to tell our Chinese allies that the flights left early due to being detected and they didn't turn on any homing beacons. I think 3 B-25 made it to Russian soil.

A small square in my town is named after Eugene McGurl. He was the navigator for Crew 5.

He died in 1943 somewhere in Burma, body never recovered.

Every time we drive past that little plot of land named in his honor I ask my kids "Who is that square named for?" and they reply "Lt Eugene McGurl"

He has not been forgotten.

that's pretty cool brother..............those guys had brass balls!
some of them ended up in unit 731..........
