Rifle Scopes $750 Budget for Glass

New Guy question

I want to start to compete in tactical shooting out to about 1000 yrds. or so.

I have up to about $750 for a scope minus rings and base. Can be in mils or MOA, fixed or vari.

What are "the flavors of the month" IN THIS PRICE RANGE?

The new Vortex Viper PST that is coming out soon is around there. That is what I would go with.

+1 on the super sniper...you can find a used one here a bit cheaper.
of course if you can save a bit more then get the falcon or viper.
i have the 16x SS and i like it alot.

I just did a informal write up on the Weaver Tactical that is in that price range. in fact you can get it for less if you shop around.

Check out the Sightron SIII. Great glass and affordable. I just picked up a SIII 6-24x50 and was blown away at the quality.

look on ebay i bought a leupold mark 4 for 975 on ebay and the sh member wanted 1200 on here

I agree with your suggestion that the "coming soon" Vortex PST will be an excellent choice, however, having spent the better part of my life in the industry I would say that the release/delivery date of this scope which is slated for April may not arrive until May or June, and then only in small quantities.
Once Vortex has a realistic delivery expectation we will post that information in a thread. New product lines are exciting when they are announced, frustrating when we are waiting for initial delivery and then exciting again once they are available and proven to be all that they are expected (which Vortex seems to deliver time and time again)

i bought a used mk4 6.5-20 50mm with ken farrel rings for 800 here on the hide. you might come across something good. be ready to buy it if its a good deal or it will be gone

I know of a company selling new Leupold M4 4.5-14 x 40mm for $799 and I know Scott at Liberty just made another suggestion but if you like Leupold he has prices too low to print but he suggests a phone call?

Eat raman for a few weeks and you will make it to a nice US Optics ST-10. Raman isn't that bad, adn think how fast you will save money when you aren't drinking or eating anything but water and raman. Grocery budget for two weeks will add enough for a really sweet scope!

I love the sightron scopes! Money well spent, SIIIs are better than anything leupold has to offer. IMHO

I'll put in another suggestion for the Sightron SIII 6.5-24x50. I got mine last month from Liberty Optics and it was everything and MORE that i was expecting. $739.00.
