Anybody interested in setting up a group buy for a Tactical stock to fit the 77/22? I've been looking at Boyd's Tacticool and think it may fill the bill. I emailed them for details and will post as soon as they answer.

Re: 77/22 Group Stock Buy?

I emailed Boyds a couple weeks ago and they said they do not inlet for the 77/22. You can try though. What ever you come up with I'd be interested in what you've got going. Going to be rebarreling soon with something more accurate and would like to restock at the same time.

Re: 77/22 Group Stock Buy?

I would be interested in a tacticool stock for the 77/22 especially if it cost the same as their 10/22 stock.

I would definitely be interested if you could get McMillan to make an HTG in forest camo.

Re: 77/22 Group Stock Buy?

I'd be interested in getting one too. I'd really like to see more options as there really seems to be a lack of after market got the most of the Ruger rifles. I'd want a varmint contour for mine preferably in a greenish color. If that doesn't work I can paint it.

Re: 77/22 Group Stock Buy?

I just emailed Russo Rifle stocks (http://russoriflestocks.com/Stock_Styles.html) with these specs:

We would be interested in either A5L or A3-5L. Specs:

1) 31" long overall (Full size of Rem 700)
2) 13.5" LOP
3) Two front and one rear sling swivels
4) do you offer flush cups?
5) The most inexpensive wood possible as these will be painted.
6) do you offer recoil pads?
7) barrel channels would be for a .920 barrel
8) general price range
9) Discount for a group buy?

Re: 77/22 Group Stock Buy?

Ok folks, here's the latest from Russo. I just got off the phone with Joel Russo. The problem is the program for the CNC machine to inlet the stocks. If we buy at least 10 stocks Joel will eat the cost to program the machine. I'll provide my 77/22 for the modeling. This would be a 100% inlet stock with three exceptions, 1) no recoil pad, 2) no bolt notch, and 3) the stock nose won't be carved. The wood would be a laminate, black on black, but the color is pretty much up to you. Black on black would be better for later painting. Because these are individually made option like swivels or flush cups can be added as you like. You can have a recoil pad added. You can have the nose carved. The base price would be $375 without options, plus shipping. Even if we provided the wood, it would still be at least $250. Go to this page to see one:

It is under hunting stocks / ruger on the website. </div></div>

Wish I had not seen this....

I'll watch what you guys come up with, I may be interested.

Re: 77/22 Group Stock Buy?

Good Morning all. I have a Boyd's Tacticool for a Savage coming Monday. I ordered it to see the shape and size. As for the Russo stock, that included laminated wood. He said "even if we supplied the wood it would be at least $275." The prioce for pads was high, swivels were not.

Boyd's is ignoring my questions and its impossible to get hold of them. A McMillan stock will cost $500 and take 4 months to deliver.

I think DFOOSKING has the answer and I agree, $300 is my top end. Thanks for the leg work.

Here's my list:
- Laminated wood (going to paint it anyway)
- A5 shape but maybe the Tacticool after I see it.
- 2 studs up front
- 1" barrel channel to allow for the .920 barrel
- Decelerator pad with a 13.5" LOP

This is not to say that I wouldn't take an M40 style if that's what the group wants. That may be the cheapest way to go.

As I started this you can PM me with your specs. I'd like to work with DFOOSKING to get this going.

Remember, we're red headed step children all. The 77/22 "don't get no respect" except from us.

Re: 77/22 Group Stock Buy?

DFOOSKING, I'll send the Tacticool to your smith to use as a model if that makes its easier. I'll post pictures as soon as I get it.

If this gets closer send me a PM for my phone number so we can work the details.

Re: 77/22 Group Stock Buy?

Still interested, just waiting to see what the final verdict is on style and price. I appreciate the effort you guys are putting into this. Thanks.

Drumie, I've been looking at these for a while and was wondering what people's experiences have been with them. Thanks for the info.

I don't mind it. I'd like 2 swivel studs since my bipod has an attachment point so a third stud isnt necessary. I looked at it in another post and it was compared to to the A5 side by side. It looks like the cheakrest portion could be a bit higher.

If anyone else has this stock and has any input or criticism speak up. It may take a while to get these stocks made...so try to get your ideas in as well as let others know about this.

What do you guys feel the chances are of boyds doing this?
They were pretty clear with me that they had no interest, but perhaps you've had a different experience with them. I also was communicating with them via email since I'm not going to pay satellite phone rates to debate this with them. Maybe they are more responsive over the phone. I certainly would be interested in one of these as long as it doesn't get outrageously expensive. Though from looking at the prices on their website for the other tacticool stocks, it doesn't seem like that would be the case. Thanks again for taking this on guys and trying to get it to happen.

Re: 77/22 Group Stock Buy?

After butting my head up against a wall looking for a stock for my 77/22 to replicate a M40 type training rifle I'm just going to order a VQ 77/22 stock from Midway and a .920 Shilen barrel and maybe in the future go with a bolt knob conversion.
Thanks for all the research guys !

Re: 77/22 Group Stock Buy?

The Boyds tacticool are exactly what they are called. A cheezy attempt at a tactical stock that is barely tacticool enough for airsoft rifles. I have one on my 10/22 and it works, but it does not even come close to my Manners or McMillans in functionality. Granted I know it is way cheaper, but its like they took 14 different style buttstocks and attached it to an A5style fore end design.

Re: 77/22 Group Stock Buy?

I just got a Tacticool yesterday. I think its for a Marlin. Now is it great? No. Does it fit me? Nope, but close. Was it worth $60+, yep. For those of us with 77/22s it would be something. But dealing with Boyd's is the pits. So this thread has been going on for a few weeks. What say you all? We need at least 20 to get something going.

I will be 1. I want something. A5 type or M40 type doesn't matter, just something. Once we get that down then we can look at specifics. The M40 may be easier to agree on.

Those who want McMillans for next to nothing please go to Mcmillan.

This buy, if it ever comes off will be for a wooden A5 style or M40 style. Please post something by Wednesday, Aug 18.
