I'm doing the research into making a build using a Sako M995 action I have and I'd like to make it a 7mm saum, and it looks like my best option (if not only option) for the stock/chassis is a KRG Whiskey 3. The Whiskey 3 with the M995 inlet is made to be compatible with AICS CIP magazines, so my question is, will I be able to reliably feed the 7 saum in this configuration? I've read that others have done the 7 saum in long actions with dbm before, I'm just hoping to hear from some of you guys that may have tried it/have experience. Thanks guys!

Short action is literally in the name of the cartridge. It feeds fine in my Remington 700 clone short action. I load 162 ELD's. If you wanted to load 180's or heavier you just have to seat them deeper and possibly farther away from the lands. You can achieve 2,900 with 180's in a short action and 3,050 fps or more with 162's. In my opinion it is a complete waste of the efficient and short cartridge design to use a long action. If you are going to use a long action there are a lot of other 7mm cartridges that you could use with more case capacity.

Hey, sorry I missed your thread earlier.

I have basically the same rifle you are thinking of building. A M995 in a KRG Chassis. I went 300 Winchester Magnum though. However I toyed with idea of putting another barrel on it and using it for PRS/making it modular/why not.

I would think that the CIP Mags would work just fine for SAUM, as long as you made sure to push them towards the back.

However, there is another option. KRG makes a space block that would allow you to use the 30-06 length single stack magazines/the non-CIP magazines.

Or you could really overdo it, and make it into a 7STW and launch 195gr bullets really really fast!

Thanks guys! I'm a pretty big fan of the efficiency and barrel life of the 7 SAUM, so that's why I was kicking around the idea of trying to use it in my m995 action. Also thinking of using it for PRS style competition down the road. I didn't know about the spacer block, that sounds like something worth a look.

How's the recoil on the 7 SAUM? Considering one for a hunting gun that will see the occasional match. A 10lb 7 SAUM might be a bit much for a match.
