Couple questions on a new build. I am looking to build off of a savage action and i am wondering what action length is recommended for the 7mm SAUM along with the boltface size?

Name of the cartridge is Remington Short Action Ultra Magnum. It was originally designed for a short action but many people run it in a long action so they can seat long bullets long.

Bolt face is .540+/-

Word of warning with respects to the 7Saum’s… Brass can be VERY hard to find. I have had Remmy brass on order since early November and to the best of my knowledge none has been made by Remington since then. I was forced to purchase Nosler brass which is very pricey & now out of stock at all of the etailers that have searched.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the cartridge, I would just hate to see you build a rifle and not be able to find the brass to shoot it.

Have your barrel yet? If not, give Jim Briggs @ Northland Shooters Supply a call. He does Criterion Barrels (CBI) which are Savage pre-fits. I've got one in 260 Rem and I know that the 7 RSAUM is a chambering that he does. I'm looking to do a 7 RSAUM next year. My 223 trainer is using a 300 WSM action (large shank and magnum bolt face). Once I find another cheap donor, I'll make that my 223 and use my WSM action as a starter action for a 7 RSAUM build.

I have a 7mm SAUM 24" barrel on a Stevens 200 short action and it works great. Beware of using 180 hybrids unless you have it chambered for it. They wont fit in the mag. which is 2.970" max with a little clearance. I'm using 162 amax and it works awesome with speeds around 2995fps. Lots of options for reamer, 300 saum is pretty easy to find till Remington get around to making 7 saum.
