I have a 20" Kreiger barrel 9.5 twist and want to try the 162 amax. What powder would you reconmend and should 9.5 twist stabilize. Also may try the 150 SMK. This rifle shoots 140s very well just want to try heavier bullets.

Thanks

I agree possibly some 4895, too.

</div></div>I'm just starting out doing the same thing as the OP except I'm going to be using a 26" barrel. I've read most people getting the best results with the H4350 which was what I wanted to use anyway so that's become a no brainer for me. What I'm wondering is do you think the OP will be better off with a faster burning powder like Varget since the barrel is shorter?

Thanks </div></div>A 9.5" twist is just about perfect for a 162 Amax where I live. My new barrel is a 9" twist and I have a small amount of regret that I didn't get a 9.5" twist since I will probably be using 162 Amax almost exclusively.
Since you live in Alaska you probably should have gotten a 9" twist for bullets that long. I'm seeing that you should be entering the marginal stability zone somewhere just under 10f and the colder it gets after that the more stability problems you MAY encounter. What's the coldest weather you think you would be shooting in?

Thanks for the replies. I live in south central Alaska coldest it gets here is in the teens. My hunts are in the fall for blactail temp. in the 30s.
