Guys,
If any of you are in the general York PA area, have some time on 8/13, and want to win some $$$, my local range, Seitzland Rifle Club, is hosting its 2nd "tactical" match. The range is located at 3938 Bowser Road in New Freedom PA. Match starts at 8am. Questions can be emailed to jmeadeATcomcast.net
FULL DISCLOSURE- the range is 200 yards max. John, the guy running the match is trying very hard to put together a challenging match given the distance constraints, having 'Hide representation and post match feedback would be nice. Could win some decent $$$ too. Below I have listed a basic look at the COF w whining from the guys who shot the pre-match COF included. Hope to see a couple familiar faces at the match.
"To begin with I built 6 “barricades” to shoot from. They are built out of 2”X4”’ and have 3 positions. One position is 48” high, one is 36” and the last is 18”. I told them they represent solid walls and I clamped them to the uprights that hold the roof up. I also use a sandbag on the outside position to hold the wall a bit steadier. You are allowed to rest your rifle on the top of the wall in any position.
For the “Know Your Limit” match you will load 5 rounds and you can shoot from any of the 3 positions on the wall. The target exposure time will be 15 seconds. The target has 3 black aiming circles. One is 6” in diameter, one is 5” in diameter and the last is 4” in diameter. The scoring is 3, 2 and 1points for the smallest to the biggest target. You don’t have to fire all 5 shots and you can shoot at any or all of the 3 targets. If you shoot a miss you get a zero for the whole string. The shooters didn’t do very well because I thought they were rushing to fire all 5 rounds. They also complained that the “walls” were not as stabile as shooting from the ground. I told them that not so stabile shooting positions were part of tactical shooting and also there will be strategy involved in winning this match. High scoring hits on targets may be more important than getting all the shots off.
For the rapid fire stage I have 5 aiming blacks on each target. The aiming blacks are a little smaller than the size of a mans chest area. They have an “X” scoring ring in the middle but that will only be used as a tie breaker. The targets will be scored as a hit or miss. You will shoot 10 rounds at the targets will be exposed for 40 seconds. You will start with a loaded rifle but you must make a magazine change some where in the string. You must use all 3 positions on the “wall” and you must fire at least 2 shots from every position on the wall. The aiming blacks can have no more than 2 hits on each one. If you fail to fire at least 2 shots from each position you get zero for the string. If you have more than 2 hits on one aiming black you will be scored for 1 miss. The shooters complained that the time was too short. Once I explained to them the strategy of loading the magazines and putting two magazines together they were able to get off all the shots. Again I told them that hits on the targets may be more important than getting off all ten shots. The shooters will shoot this course of fire twice.
For the moving balloon targets the center balloon will be worth 5 points and a hit on either of the outside balloons will be scored as a minus 2. A miss will simply be a miss. Exposure time is 5 seconds. We have a new way of attaching the balloons to the frames and it allows them to move around a bit more. Last time I taped all 3 together. This time there is no tape. The shooters said it was much harder with out the tape so I put the tape on but they still didn’t get many hits. The last time only 30% of the shots at the balloons were hits so I didn’t want to make it any harder but with the scoring now the balloon stage should determine the match winner. Still though Sam it’s not going to be easy to hit the balloons.
All together there will be 30 record shots fired and 3 sighters at the beginning of the match on the “Know Your Limits” target. The match is going to be on Saturday August the 13th."
