I've been thinking about a new farm/varmint gun...and have decided to go with a Savage 12bvss in .223. It's going to be used at my range for steel/paper (200yds), at my brother-in-law's tree farm for steel (up to 500yds..possibly more if I get out and look better..have 84 acres), and also used at his farm for groundhogs with most shots between 250-400yds.
I'm def going with a Sightron SIII, that's not the question....the question is...should I go with the 8-32x56 or the 6-24x50... I know that most of the shooting will be 200yds and closer, as that's close to me...and the tree farm every few weekends (it's ~2.5hrs away) so I was leaning towards the 6-24....but the 8-32 really isn't much more money....and I'm likely never to use LESS than half or more of the available magnification....so would I really be giving anything up to step up to the 8-32x56?
Down the road I hope to do some 1000yd shooting since Hawk's Ridge re-opened.....so I'm considering buying a 6mm or 6.5mm bolt face and doing a 6cm or 6.5cm or 260 at some point...and giving a go at that distance...but, that'll be next summer at the earliest with my present schedule.
Also...I know I want to go ahead and get the exposed turrets...I'm not a huge fan of holding over when I can just dial to my needed setting...but I'm unsure if going MIL or MOA would be better for my useage.... I have a range finder, i will NOT be ranging with the scope, but will using it to estimate clicks...but just unsure if I should go with the MIL Dot and Mil knobs, Mil Dot and MOA knobs, or MOA-2/MOA scope...
