I am not sure when this happened or all of the details, but it was on the morning news.
The mother is asking for better traing for LEOs after her 8 year old son was pepper sprayed while having a tantrum at a local elementery school. He was armed with a stick.
I am 62 years old and have a grandson who is 8 years old and can be a handful when he is pissed, however, at 62 I can't imagine that I would not be able to grab ANY 8 year old boy armed with a stick and not kick or paddle his ass when something was going down.
I have a feeling that some LEO is in deep shit and if he needs training as to how to grab an 8 year old before resorting to pepper spray, I will volunteer.
Something about this just doesn't seem right.
If it is my 8 year old grandson that is fucking up and you spray him you better be ready for Grandpa to come looking for your ass and it ain't going to be pretty.
What are the bounds?

I am not saying that I would not have liked to do something like that at one time or another with other little kids, not my grandson, but it does seem harsh to me to pepper spray an 8 year old.
How tough do you have to be to deploy pepper spray on an 8 year old?
I foresee Lakewood PD paying some money out to shut this thing up, that they don't have the budget for, and some stupid ass LEO losing his job.
If he can't handle an 8 year old he doesn't need to be on the job.
The taxpayers who are already suffering enough will suffer more.
This LEOs employment needs to end.
I know it is tough, but take the whacks from the stick and grab that little prick by the ear or neck and contol the situation.
Does the LEO not have a baton/ nightstick to ward off the blows coming from this 8 year old?
Personally, I would have waded in and grabbed the little asshole and maybe had a bruise or two afterwards but have yet to come up against an 8 year old that I could not handle.
If he had a knife or a gun, I would understand.
Something strange about this.

Run a basic search on the news story before you get too upset that this little $#!T got a face full of pepper spray.

This kid has a history of some pretty serious problems, including violent outbursts that resulted in injury, and this isn't the first time that law enforcement had to be called to deal with him at school. This time, they were called after he went nuts, started whailing on other kids and teachers who apparently couldn't or wouldn't deal with him and also after he threatened to kill them. Between the time when teachers called the police and they arrived, he apparently ripped some wood moulding off the walls (or something to that effect depending on which news report you read/believe). When police arrived they say that the kid was still in a rage, screaming "Get away from me you f---ers," threatening them, and whirling the piece of moulding/whatever around at them. They ordered him several times to drop the piece of wood or whatever it was he had and when he refused, they sprayed him with pepper spray until he dropped it so that they could restrain him without further injury to the kid, the officers or anyone else, cuff his ass and put him the the crusier to be taken away. They didn't taze him...they didn't go all Rodney King on his little ass...they certainly didn't shoot him...they PEPPER SPRAYED HIM!

Would you have preferred the officers to get injured (regardless of how seemingly insignificant an injury may have resulted from a piece of moulding being weilded by an 8yo) or for junior to get a face full of mace? What's to say that junior wouldn't have harmed himself worse than the officers did by spraying him if they'd have waited around to talk him down or if they'd have waded on in like John Wayne and disarmed him forceably?

Finally, if he'd have had a knife or a gun...I think they'd have been justified in taking things even further than some pepper spray!! (Remember...this is the SAME SCHOOL ZONE as Columbine).

Colorado police are defending their decision to pepper spray a crazed 8-year-old after the boy threw a violent tantrum in his classroom and threatened people with a sharp weapon.

The boy, identified only as Aiden, had been threatening, spitting and cursing at teachers in his second grade classroom in Lakewood, Colo., on Feb. 22 when schools officials called the cops.

When police arrived, the pint-sized perp was wielding a sharp piece of wood trim he had torn off the wall and was trying to stab teachers with it, cops said.

"I wanted to make something sharp if they came out because I was so mad at them," the boy later told Colorado's KUSA television. "I was going to try to whack them with it."

Cops ordered the boy to drop the stick, but the boy refused, shouting, "Get away from me you f---ers!" police said.

Officer then sprayed the boy with two doses of pepper spray and handcuffed him.

Aiden's mom, identified as Mandy, said that the boy had anger issues and that it was the third time teachers had called the cops after one of his tantrums.

Police spokesman Steve Davis defended the police.

"Our officers had to do something to diffuse the situation in a hurry before someone got hurt," Davis told KUSA.

"I think the officers made a great choice that day in choosing the pepper spray," he added.

Aiden's mom said her son was treated like "a common criminal."

"I'm sure what he was doing wasn't right, but he's 8 years old," she told the station.

Mandy said the boy was transferred to a school with behavior problems and had been seeing a doctor.

"I got like anger things," Aiden said. "It's just who I am. I think it's not ever going to go away."

LMFAO... first off it's rare that I DON'T think LEO need more training, but this is not one of those times. The purpose of OC spray, or a tazer, or even a baton, any less leathal weapons is actually to cause the least injury. It worked here, junior was a threat to himself, the responding officers, and the public, if as you wish they would have physically put hands on him to disarm the little fucker, they would have risked personal injuryand injury to the dipshit himself. OC is a wondrful tool, and it was used right in this situation... IMHO, w/ the little I intel I have on this, just from this thread.

Kids are not the same today as they were when I grew up . .. PERIOD! They're more mouthy, more aggressive, have less of a conscience and often have their parents fooled to think they are prince/princess charming! Furthermore, <span style="text-decoration: underline"><span style="font-weight: bold">*NOT*</span></span> justifying the kids actions by any stretch of the imagination, but this kid has legit psych issues that hopefully get treated sooner than later!

Spraying/tasing/shooting kids is not what any cop wants to do. BUT I will do WHATEVER it takes to get my ass home to my family at the end of my tour, PERIOD! I don't care if the perp is 5 years old or 5 decades old.

A statement like that can also be paralleled with anybody who is tasked with preserving the peace and authorized to use deadly force. The US military is doing this right now in a number of countries. Switching gears; this is a huge problem in the US right now. I believe that two factors play heavily into the discourse of today's youth. 1) Lack of parental accountability and 2) Lack of discipline.

I never blew a gasket like this when I was a kid, at least not externally. The reason that I didn't was for the fear of what my father would do to me when he came to pick me up. In my day, the majority of the kids were in the exact same position so tempers may flare but they were always stifled by the fear of our parents.

Today, teachers can't discipline. Look at the incident in San Carlos, CA where a teacher slammed a desk to get the classes attention. Well, a girl subsequently called police and an investigation was started with the teacher being suspended.

Laziness among parents today is running rampant. I can see the change in my own neighborhood. Kids are throwing rocks at neighbor's cars, pissing in the street, littering the neighborhood with candy rappers, damaging fences, yelling in all hours of the night.....and the list goes on. To reference the above article, the parents were more concerned with their son getting pepper sprayed than with him grabbing a sharp stick and attempting to hit or stab people.

So if parents don't discipline and teachers can't discipline, who is left? The police. The police always have to take up the slack and then have all of their actions analyzed. Why aren't you people analyzing the parents actions or lack thereof?

Police Officer is the only profession where EVERYBODY feels the need to comment, critique and analyze. (Professional sports is a close second except nobody is allowed to go out on the field while a player is actually doing his job) Try going in to your mechanic while he has your car on a lift and say, "I can't believe you're doing this wrong!" Then pull out a cell phone camera and start yelling at him. I'd say you'd be lucky if you didn't get smashed in the face.

Sadly, there are more oversight committees, watch groups, and investigations on police officers than there are on fuckin' parolees!!!!!!!! People wonder why the crime rate is soaring yet they want to dump money into police oversight because of some irrational fear that cops go crooked and crazy on a regular basis.

Nobody knows what a cop is supposed to do except for other cops yet they are judged by people who are so incompetent and apathetic it's mind boggling. There are tons of rules that a police officer has to abide by. Not only do they need to abide by the law, but they also need to follow policy. Also, they would like to go home at the end of their shift. It's a fine line that they have to walk and I'm sure it sucks when every step is ridiculed by some dumbass who thinks that he knows better.

In regards to the little kid who got sprayed: I wasn't there but if I take the article at face value, I agree with the police officer's actions. I don't care that he is 8 years old. A 5 year old could jam a stick into my stomach just as easily. It's not a cops job to get beat with sticks by other people's undisciplined children. My remedy: spray some pepper spray in his face and let him drop the stick. Pepper spray is benign and won't cause any scarring. The kid will learn a little discipline. The next time the police show up, I bet you the kid listens and drops whatever he's holding.

Yet another problem fixed by police but ridiculed by everybody else.

However, I am still to meet the 8 year old that I can't whup his ASS and contol him as long as he doesn't have a gun.
If he has a gun that is a different story.
We are talking about 8 years old here.
When I was 8 and the cops came around, I was not afraid of them and figured there was something terrible going down. [[someone walked against traffic or had shot someones dog with a BB gun.]

FYI the spray was ultimately the absolute best decision and likely one of the few options allowed by training and policy that would not result in injury to any of the participants.

It is sad! I remember when it was ok for the neighbor to whoop your ass if they caught you doing something dumb!! I would say the LE grabbing the little shit by the neck and making him eat pavement would have been a bit more satisfying. He should have manhandled the teacher for being a pussy while he was at it!

I watched this story on the Today show.
The kid is a Shit, his mom came on the show to defend little "johnny", instead she should have kicked his litttle ass for causing such a disruption. I did notice that there was NO dad to defend the kid. He must be out of the picture, and it looks like the little boy runs the house.
This isn't the first time the police had to be called to discipline the kid, in my opinion the police did the right thing, If they would have touched the kid I'm sure that would have been considered excessive force.
Our parents need to step up and take responsibility for their kids.

Teachers used to do that!! I still remember a very angry nun bringing out the "boat oar" for display and to make a point! Other than that a couple of angry whacks with a ruler was all it took for me.

I still remember my dad busting the neighbors kids ass for being a smart mouthed little shit! sad that those days are gone! Sometimes a little ass beating is perfectly acceptable.

How much did you weigh when you were 8 years old? How much did you weigh when you in the 7th grade? The reason I ask is, if you weigh 145 pounds now and Mike Tyson fought at 239.75 lbs. did you gain nearly 94.75 lbs. during that period? Plus, I don't consider 145lbs. to be a skinny ass, I actually find it an ideal body weight of a woman.

You have to remember that laws and regulations involving uses of force with juveniles can be very ...well complicated. Usually your best bet, even if you're a LEO, is not to use physical force on them just to cover your own ass. Seems to me that the officer followed the use of force plan very well. They ordered him to put down the weapon several times, and he had already threatened other people with death. And they used the least amount of force necessary to gain compliance. Really if you think about it the Tazer is the quickest way and it doesn't have any lasting effects, but that OC will burn his ass for about 45 minutes or so. Let that little shithead's eyes burn for awhile. LOL

I probably weighed in at about 50lbs when I was 8. When I was in 7th grade I would say I weighed in at about 90-100lbs which is a decent little gain. The difference does mean a lot imo.

I was 156lbs but lost some weight while trying to overcome some injuries from my last deployment.

The cop should have blistered the kids butt with a belt after he pepper sprayed him. And the mom should request that the officer come by 3-4 times a week to reapply the belt. That would go a long way to correct his anger issues.

I was a hyperactive child. When I would act up I got the belt or the wooden cooking spoon. I learned very quickly to control my outbursts. All my mother needed to do was shoot me "the look". If she wasn't around, the belt hanging by the kitchen door would remind me of the consequences. God forbid my parents should hear about an outburst second hand. These days if parents spank their kids they end up in front of a judge. If a teacher were to descipline a student they would be fired and face the judge. If the cops were to spank the kid they would likely ruin their careers. Cops pepper spraying eight year old kids is merely a consequence of our great advancing society. The boy will likely be enrolled in a special school where he will be told that it's nobody's fault and that a lifetime of medication will make everything just fine.

I am all good with taking that boy aside and having a good talk with him.
I am also good with the cop coming around and putting the belt to his ass about 3 or 4 times a week. [or as necessary]
If the talk went well the belt would not be necessary.
I do think that while the cop was there to paddle that 8 YO ass, he should grab the Mom and after extracting her head from her ass, giving her 40 whacks.
Too many kids these days don't have a Dad nor the family structure to learn good discipline. Hence a lot of problems.
I think OC spray is a bit Draconian for an 8 YO.
I was a badass when a kid and did all kinds of bad shit.
When the cops came I knew I was in deep shit and probably deserving of it, though not always me but some other thug from the neighborhood, but held a deep respect for the Cops when they came. They always got down to who had fucked up and why,[as if there was an explanation as to why kids fuck up, but they were always fair.]
If I had been sprayed with OC I doubt I would have had the respect for them nor asked them for help when I needed it.
They would grab our young asses and give us a talking to and explain the errors of our ways.
They were good cops.
I think the neighborhood cop is something we need.
Someone the kids can trust and go to when they have a problem.

Years later when I was doing a Ride Along with one of those Cops from my younger years, he stopped a drunk and got into a hassle with him. The Asshole got bad and Mac, my police friend, was having a hell of a time with him so I got out to help.
Maybe I should not have, and watched my mentor get his ass kicked but that is not how I am wired.
We got this big Sumbich to the ground and Mac sprayed him with OC.
Since I had a hold on that Sumbitch, not wanting to have my friend bested, I got a shot of the OC too.
Damn, that hurt. Must have been Bear Spray.
After it was done and I was washing my eyes out. Mac said"That's some strong shit ain't it"
All I could do was agree.
Maybe this kid would benefit from having someone from the Big Brother program, I know I did.
The mentors I had knew when to cut slack and take you home and when to run you in.
I hope their sons do as well as their fathers.
RIP Mac and Pierce. We miss you.
