I would like to know from actual operators, has anyone seen or heard of operators using 5.56 or .223 80 Grain SMKs, or 75 to 80 grain VLDs in combat? I know that that MK 262 Mod 0 and Mod 1 were used, and that the Army did field 1:8 twist barrels at one time in thier M16A4 DMRs. As a former highpower shooter, I had great success at 600 yards with the 80 SMKs. Thier terminal velocity is adequate. Any thoughts or observations?

the bullet used is the 77gr SMK at mag length...
the.gov dose not use the 75 or 80's
and from story's told, single point targets and hits and drops at 600+

C'mon guys, get real - we all know "actual operators" handload their own ammo and single load the rifle when in combat.

Not sure how that answers the OP's question. The answer is no, however there is a load that uses 77gr SMKs.
