800 yd sniper match central Florida.

Re: 800 yd sniper match central Florida.

The Bradford Sportsmans Farm is in Graham, which is near Waldo. Their website is bsfshootingsports.com and it has a google map and directions. They try to have a tactical type match and a benchrest match about once a month. The tactical matches are $30 and usually consist of a bolt gun and pistol or an AR and pistol. Sometimes we have a 3 gun match with AR, shotgun and pistol. The range was just pushed out to 850 yds and this is the first match at this distance. If you go to ruashooter.com and email Rick Pisano and tell him to put you on the email list then you will get emails with all the details about upcoming matches. Now that the big range is open Rick will also update the matches on the ruashooter website. The round count for this match is around 33 rifle and 24 pistol and I think you have 50 minutes to complete the course. They send you in teams of two but you are scored individually and if you dont have a partner it doesn't matter. Rick dropped this match on us last minute, usually you have more time to prepare or make plans. Hope to see you out there.

Re: 800 yd sniper match central Florida.

I looked at the websites (range and ruashooter), looks like some fun stuff. 2-gun, 3-gun and 4-gun matches on a range w/ 800+yd shots might make it worth a drive down.

Equipment and match details (scoring, stage format etc) were kind of sketchy. If you're on the e-mail list do you get more information?

Re: 800 yd sniper match central Florida.

We are working on getting those basic details on the website soon. I'll give you a quick rundown.

Long range sniper match:
You can use any caliber bolt gun or semi auto except for the 'heavies' like 338, 416, 50 BMG.
No rimfires of any kind.
No rimfire pistols of any kind.
Rangefinders are permitted in all matches.
All needed ammo and equipment must carried during match.

2 Gun matches:
Any semi auto rifle except for 'heavies' and rimfires.
No rimfire pistols ever.
Pistol stages are mixed in with the rifle stages.
If there is a shotgun stage it is usually seperate and run at the end of the course but this could change.

Format:
Long range matches are run 2-4 persons at a time depending on how many shooters there are. Everyone is scored individually but you are welcome to help each other during the course.
The 2 gun matches(AR or semi) are usually run 2 shooters at a time and sometimes go off the range course into the woods or swamp to engage steel targets and then back onto the 850 yard range. There are pistol stages along the way as well. A range officer will follow you through the course to keep score and ensure safety rules are followed.

Scoring:
There is a mix of steel and paper targets. Steel is either hit or miss and paper silhouette is worst edge scoring. If the outside line is broken on the silhouette then the shot does not count. Only head shots and center mass shots count for score.

All sensible safety rules apply. No loaded weapons in staging area and weapons will only be loaded right before you shoot and you will have to show range officer a clear weapon before you move on. We will never move from stage to stage with a loaded weapon.
These matches were designed to be fun and dont require you be an olympic sprinter to compete although there is a time limit. There are no high dollar prizes invloved except maybe a plaque and bragging rights until next time.

Re: 800 yd sniper match central Florida.

So how was it? The heat was brutal here so I imagine it was freakin swamp-nasty out there. I never hated working so much as I did yesterday. All I could think about was that I should have been shooting.
