That gentleman is still one serious Warrior, not to be trifled with.
It is great how veterans are honoured at your country.</div></div>
Do veterans of the German military not recieve the same respect and honour? </div></div>
WWII veterans are held in good opinion by most people. But it is different from federal institutions.
The Wehrmacht must not be the base for tradition in the Bundeswehr (German armed forces), because it was used as a brutal tool of the Nazi regime. There are few soldiers which are considered as an example, like Oberst Stauffenberg who tried unsuccessfully to kill Hitler with a bomb.
In the last fifteen years the Bundeswehr has changed from a defence army against the red hordes from the east to a worldwide police force to an expedition force, still with a long and stony way to go.
In this time the perception of the soldiers in the society has canged too. Most people think very positive about our boys and girls out there, but more support is still necessary.
