9/16 or 5/8 x 24 muzzle thread recommendations?

I have a barrel out to Christensen Arms for shortening, profiling, and wrapping. I'm going to order an AWC Thundertrap suppressor that will go back and forth between this mountain hunting/tac rifle and a dedicated tactical rifle barrel that will be built later this year. I'm curious if there is any advantage between 9/16 x 24 and 5/8 x 24 for the muzzle threads? I need to let them know which way to go. Any advice?

The rifle will have a cap and muzzle brake to fit the threads as well.

Thanks in advance!

The AWC can be ordered either way. CA typically threads their muzzle brakes for 9/16, but they will do whatever is needed. The barrel started out as a 24" MILSPEC 5R, but is being cut down to 18". If memory serves, it has a muzzle diameter around .98" or just under that. CA will be profiling it back up to the original profile after turning down the stainless.

i should think twice about being too tacticool here sport.....if you are carbon fiber wraping a barrel....the end where the boolit comes out is really there to keep the carbon fiber from un raveling.......unless of course you tell 'em what you wants and needs are....then they may demure to another suppressor lashup....

Not sure what tacticool means, uh, sport??

Always one in the crowd.

So, back to the original question... I have other barrels threaded in 5/8 x 24 (different caliber). I wasn't sure if there was any advantage to going with CA's standard threading or keeping to the 5/8?

If there is no advantage, then I'll probably just keep to the 5/8 pattern. VA allows for hunting with a suppressor, so I figured I'd equip this barrel to do so as well since the new 308's barrel will be threaded. My prior 308's were not.

Ahhh Mr. Machinery Salesman. Thanks for the tip. My manners have been without reproach. Although I don't need the time of day from you, and from the looks of it, you have no interest in the topic, I have updated my profile just for you....sport.

There's no farm or construction machinery to discuss in this thread, so, either join in about the topic or push on.

So, do you have any recommendations about muzzle threads, or did you just come here to tell me my profile was lacking?

Thanks for the reminder though.

Re: 9/16 or 5/8 x 24 muzzle thread recommendations?

on the thread thingie.......normal shooters,,,,,,you know them that actually USE their stuff to compete and kill with...mostly go and have ALL brakes and suppressors and thread protectors done up with a common thread pitch.....base line being a brake that works and is most efficient,,,,THEN, of course one would want the ability to go suppressed if thats even possible....or not, then the thread protector.....thread size really seems not to be a factor....but the most efficeint brakes got a proprietary thread

Re: 9/16 or 5/8 x 24 muzzle thread recommendations?

Thanks for the answer.

BTW, there is no need to be condescending.

I hunt, and I shoot. This rifle is mainly a hunter. Around here, we shoot boar, and often do so close to farms. So, the suppressor capable barrel makes sense to reduce the disturbance of the land owners.

I shoot in local informal competitions with another 308. It is not threaded and none of my other hunting rifles are either. This rifle is being lightened to be a mountain rifle during deer and bear season, but it will get used to shoot boar when ever.

It seems that CA uses 9/16 for their MB, but I'll probably go with 5/8 since there doesn't seem to be any real reason for me not to. Thanks for your answers guys. Much appreciated.
