I have as much respect and sorrow as anyone but it just seems that the media has beat this into a fury. Why dont they just shut the fuck up and let us mourn quietly.

WHY?

It sells copy. It makes money.

Sorry, didnt mean to vent but it just gets to me.

Re: 911 and the media

Are you writing your 'vent' while volunteering at a homeless shelter? Or perhaps you are out picking up trash, or registering voters?

Or like Mariska Hargetay's NBC PSA "I'll be volunteering at a battered womens shelter this September 11th." Fucking please...

Along with the hype you mention is the propaganda telling us what the meaning of September 11th is...

It will never be a community organizing event for me.

I remain pissed off. I blame particular people from a particular mindset, from a particular ...

Yeah. Like I said, I remain pissed off.

They treat it like it was some horrible accident or a Tsunami.
It was a cowardly attack on innocent civilians.
Someone should remember that in their group hugging.

Re: 911 and the media

I gotta admit, I do agree.

I particularly don't like the whole "NEVER FORGET" thing that the media has forced upon us for the past decade, and you now see people mimic and repeat every time someone brings up the topic.

Trust me, anyone who was around on 9/11/01 will never forget that day. We don't need the media to tell us to not forget about it seemingly every week since then.

By doing that so frequently and for so long now, it seems like they are only trying to manipulate emotions to keep the people on their side since we are still at war a decade later, and have actually pretty much bankrupted ourselves on said war, have less freedoms than ever, etc.

You keep constantly bombarding everyone with it, and less people will object to the destruction of this country at the hands of our own government. If anyone does object you either say "remember 9/11" or call them unpatriotic and they back down...

Re: 911 and the media

Agreed, Not to take anything away from anyone, whether the fire fighters, law enforcement, or civilians) but at some point we need to progress. You can never progress if you hold on to the past as if it is today. Let's evolve as a society and country and move forward to honor those lost while preventing the loss of future lives. And PLEASE let's stop the media from enabilibling the all too prevalent paranoia!!!

Re: 911 and the media

It is all part of the "victimization" of America. George Will had an interesting piece in yesterdays paper contrasting 10 yrs after Pearl Harbor and 10 years after 9/11. Americans have never forgotten Pearl Harbor but neither have we wallowed in it. America took care of business and got on with life. The 'greatest generation" had it right.

Re: 911 and the media

leagle, while as much as I agree with you and your above statements, there is one other point to bring up.

WWII was decisively 'started'; it was contentiously persisted; and most importantly, it was MOST DEFINITELY ended.

As a comparison to "this era's" events I then put forward that this would best be looked upon as a REMINDER to those with intelligence that "the game is afoot" and not yet completed. Or, to put it more eloquently:

SHIT, OR GET OFF THE POT.

Again, no disrespect to you or the majority of the 'Hide, but there are many 'down across the line' who forgot the true essence of patriotism, duty, honor, and integrity the very moment that their latte got cold. (them-ones are definitely NOT in the "intelligent" category)

I share your opinion.

Two really big bombs tend to make you think "we won".
I still have the eery feeling the enemy is still strong and in our land. Killing OB felt good but just did not give me a long lasting warm and fuzzy.
