i am thinking about a 9mm 1911.

ever since i bought my sig P938, i think i kinda want a 1911 now, just in 9mm. it would have to have a threaded barrel of course.

this would be just for plinking. thats why i want a 9mm, plus my can i'll be getting in a few weeks is for a 9mm.

adjustable sights would be nice too.

stainless steel.

the websites i peeked at:
springfield
sig

who am i missing?

You're missing the best shooting 9mm ever made, the Browning Hi-Power!

Seriously, if I were buying a 9mm to suppress, I'd take a hard look at the Smith and Wesson M&P.

Edit to add: If you end up getting the Sig, make sure that the barrel threads match your suppressor. Sig has sold both 1/2x28 Right hand and 13.5x1 Left hand threaded barrels.

Re: 9mm 1911?

just did a quick search, and storm lake makes a threaded barrel for a 9mm 1911. ill just have to check and make sure it fits the sig jhnmdahl suggested.

tim, as far as the M&P goes, i don't like them. thats why i have a few XDm's. thanks for the tip on the threads.

Re: 9mm 1911?

I took a class from Todd Green a few weeks ago and he was using a Springfield 9mm 1911. It ran like a top. You can read his reviews on it at his website, pistol-training.com, as he is doing a long term test on it.

Re: 9mm 1911?

I have many many rounds thru a springfield 1911 9mm... probably approaching 100k. It currently needs a barrel, its shot out. Its has been a great pistol for me. I shoot IDPA with it.

Re: 9mm 1911?

I shoot IDPA and USPSA with a custom build 9mm 1911. It's a real pussy cat and the sights don't come near leaving the target. However, it is picky about overall length of ammo so I had to play with it a bit to get it right. Since figuring out what it likes it runs like a Singer Sowing machine, and is probably my favorite pistol to shoot at the moment!

I know Kimber makes a Target II in 9mm and Springfield has either a loaded or target in 9mm as well. STI is big in the USPSA circles and they seem to turn out some pretty fine pistols; they have a few models in 9mm as well. Also, you can go semi-custom or custom if you want to drop the dough.

Hope this helps,

If you don't mind dropping the cash the nighthawk AAC in 9mm would be grat. Got one in 45 with a ti rant and love it. My nighthawk falcon in 9mm is as smooth as silk I keep thinking about another AAC for that reason.

Re: 9mm 1911?

STI Trojan in 9mm. I got it from Brazo's and had them do their once over package which included a trigger job and make sure it's all set up to run well. I can't get it to fail with Winchester white box.

I highly recommend it.

Re: 9mm 1911?

One more thing. If you MUST have a 1911 in 9mm, but want a high-capactity. Take a look at the Wilson Spec Ops 9. IMO probably the most innovative 1911 to come out in 12 years.

Or you could just get a Glock.

It's the easier way around the barn door. A new barrel on a 1911 for a suppressor will need significant fitting. And that doesn't count the bushing being fit. On a Glock or M&P, they are basically drop in. Or damn near.

Rock Island is a good budget/entry 1911 9mm, from there I'd look at Springfield or STI. STI has Trojan, Spartan and Duty One all I believe in 9mm. Or find an older Colt 9mm and build on it.

Sacs 9mm goodness (I have one on order)
