Alright so I am in the process of building another AR15 centered around a Noveske 16" barrel with a Switchblock. Accuracy is utmost. I am wondering if there is a barrel nut out there that is better than standard or proprietary barrel nuts. I realize certain proprietary hand guards come with their special barrel nut. But for the "takes a standard M16 barrel nut" type of hand guards, is there a better barrel nut than standard? For example I am thinking of top tier ARs like POF or LWRC which have their own special barrel nuts.

And while we're at it, what hand guards do you guys like? I am wanting to keep it below $200, but for something I really like I'll pay what it takes. Noveske says the Switchblock won't fit under most hand guards so I will have to keep it under 9" unless someone knows of one tall enough. I would like a modular rail, not a quad rail. I like my midwest ss modular rail but I want to try something new. I like the PRI gen III mid length tube. How bout you guys?

Thanks

I considered getting the switchblock and was going to go with a 15" rail and notch it out for access to the block. I've seen several pics of guys doing it around the net, it'd be easy with a dremel if you are careful, or quick work with a vertical mill. I like more rail real estate for an extended arm grip. Also, you could go with a rail relieved for a fsb, like the DD lite omega rail or Troy delta. As for the barrel nut, as long as it uniformly holds clamping force, I'd think a nut is a nut.
