Think this rifle is finally finished, except the barreled action may get re-sprayed in HK Black...Im not sold on the Flat Service Brown.
Started its life as a regular old 110BA. First thing it got was the Accu-shot picatinny rail for the Atlas. That came from the Anshutz sliding adapter kit they sell, the rail was the perfect length to drill/tap it into the small space in the front of the stock.
A Murphy Precision 40moa SS base was installed (retarded BA rail never left the box), the base was glass bedded to the action.
The Accu-Stock wings were milled out of the stock in favor of a proper Devcon glass bed job.
The factory barrel was giving me major problems with accuracy, best I could find was 3" @ 100yds before I gave up and ordered a Shilen Stainless Match 1-10tw barrel for it. Only waited about 18 of the 24 weeks they originally quoted me. As soon as I got the barrel it got some 3/4-24 muzzle threads for the can.
While the BA was apart, the action face was trued, bolt face trued, and lugs lapped. I also polished the ejector because it was leaving some nasty marks on the brass. Barrel was headspaced onto a PTG go gauge.
Next thing was a paintjob. Started with just the barreled action in flat service brown KG, didnt like it with the black stock so shot all the metal components of the stock with flat dark earth. Looks better, but still think I may re-shoot the barrel in HK Black.
I fired a few rounds through my old YHM 338 Phantom, can sounds excellent but its a tad heavy, and Im not sold on the greatest accuracy from the QD mount. Shot sub .5moa at 180yds without any load development.
Now the Thunderbeast 338BA arrived today...much better! 23.5oz without the brake, 27.5 with it compared to 42oz for the Phantom. Turned about .020 off the brake and it was timed in one shot. Just had to bore a few threads out of the end as my muzzle threads were a tad long.
Ill update tomorrow when I get a chance to shoot it and see how it does.
