Reminds me of a minor funny story to share. My brother and I would always joke about "opening up a can o whup-ass" driving out to the woods for hunting trips (we're actually safe ethical hunters in the woods, just joking on the way BTW). Once in the middle of nowhere in the Northwest we came across a really old C-Ration, all rusted on the outside. Of course my brother goaded me on, "are you gonna open that can o whup-ass?". Of course I did.... and of course I ate it! The can was corroded on the outside but intact on the inside. I don't know what came over me, and it was a really stupid thing to do. Anyway I survived with no ill-effects. Having looked into the matter while writing this (thank you Wikipedia) I believe it was a D-2 dessert ration. It was a very dense chocolate cake or fudge, in an approximately "Chicken of the Sea" size can. My guess is a fire crew from very many years back accidentally left it behind. Just thought someone might find this entertaining, even at my expense.
