Hunting & Fishing A couple 300AAC harvests (graphic)

This first one was taken last year. The rifle is a Rem 700 Tac in 300AAC with factory barrel. The projectile was a handloaded Lehigh Defense 176 controlled fracturing (subsonic). Shot was at 40 ish yards, the round entered the neck and did its "fracturing" thing. The 3 petals broke free: 1 was lodged in the spine, 1 ricocheted down into the heart and the 3rd exited the opposite side. The base of the projectile severed the spine completely and was wedged under the skin on the opposite side. This little fella would not stop harrassing our horses. He would repeatedly try to gouge them with his little forks.

The next one was taken a couple years ago using my Frankengun AR built with Seekins parts. 10.5" barrel in 300AAC at 65 yards. A handloaded Lehigh 115 controlled chaos pushed with a near max load of Lil Gun
This one absolutely destroyed the lungs and ripped a massive chunk out of the heart. I was VERY impressed by the performance.

But, but, but the 300 Blackout is useless for deer, hogs or even squirrels or at least that is what I hear all the time. It is an amazingly versatile caliber. I have an acquaintance that is using lathe turned bullets in his to make supersonic hits on MOA targets out to 800 yards. I have a 33 inch barrel I used to launch 110g bullets at 2,800+ fps and was still 2 grains off of max. If I decide to give it another try I bet I can get them over 3,000 fps.

I bought one of those Solo 300 uppers. It is a upper designed to be a pistol without a buffer tube. It is sidecharging and is almost as fast as a semi auto but as quiet as a single shot. I use it on an SBR lower and it is a lot of fun.

I was in a helicopter accident and while recovering, still not recovered, I dabbled in bullet design. I designed a 265g bullet specifically for the 300 Blackout. Then I licensed it to a manufacturer that sells a lot of them.

I necked up a 221 Fireball to 6mm. Some people call it a 6mm Blackout but I can launch 55g bullets out of it at 3,200 fps using a 24" barrel and 2,850 out of a 9" barrel. No signs of pressure at all.

It was tested for 18 months, went through several changes along the way. It was originally supposed to be a single shot only bullet but one of the testers tried it in an AR and with a few tweaks we were able to get it to work. It is optimized for powders used in the 300 Blackout so it has optimal case fill. It is also very forgiving when working up loads. I have users reporting they are getting sub 1.5" groups at 100 yards consistently. The nose profile is not straight. It has a slight taper so you can engage the rifling and center the bullet. I recommend starting out at 2.10" OAL then when you have a reliable load start adding .01" at a time to the OAL. At some point you will have one OAL that groups significantly better than any other. The tapered bore rider was part of the design specifically to increase accuracy as well as make finding an accurate load easier because cast bullets are notoriously hard to get to shoot well.

It hits like a hammer. Ringing steel you can hear a difference. And it smashes through bone like no other. I have gotten feedback from hunters who say it is crushing through hog heads at subsonic velocities. Shoulder bones are easy to get through as well. They generally tumble and create a massive wound channel on the way through because they are 1.375" long. Had one guy shoot a deer head on at the base of the neck and it went end to end, coming out the back.

They can also be safely loaded to ~1,400 fps depending on the powder used. It was designed around IMR 4227 because it seems to always be plentiful and it will reliably cycle most ARs. But any powder that will work with subsonic 300 Blackout loads will work with the 265g.

The best part is because it is such a heavy bullet it uses less powder. Less powder means less gas and less gas means it is quieter when shot with a silencer. I have a 16" Encore in 300 Blackout that I call my slingshot gun. With these bullets and my F1 silencer it is quieter than a slingshot. I use fast powders such as Trail Boss and Red Dot for my single shot loads.

I have a few people using them in 308's. Even though they are 265g they are stable in 10 twist barrels as long as the velocity is at least 1,100 fps. But because all barrels are different I would verify before shooting them through a silencer.

I can attest to the 265DS bullet. They are outstanding in both gas guns (10.5" & 18") and a 16" bolt action.
