A&D FX Scale calibration

Hi,

Since the A&D FX series needs to be calibrated using a certified weight, how do you guys calibrate it from time to time?
I have a A&D FZ series which has a internal calibration.

I have the check weight which came with mine. I use that as the calibration weight.


If your instructions say to use a 50g/100g/Whatever weight check weight and you don't have one, then source one. If you already have a check weight, but want one that more "accurate", then you can find "certified" weight check weights. Just remember to use the same check weight each time.

If you make 50 rounds of ammo with 41.5gr of powder with one calibration using check weight A, then switch to check weight B to do another calibration, your 41.5gr measured with weight B will now be different that the previous 41.5gr done with weight A.

What's most important is that you calibrate the same scale with the same check weight each time.

If you have done your load development on your scale with your check weight It doesn't matter if the weight itself is off by a few tenths or even a few whole grains as long as it is consistent and you only use your scale and your check weight.

Where you need to be careful is sharing charge weight data with others whose scale may or may not be calibrated to the same standard as yours, but taken in isolation the calibration of your scale itself isn't critical.

Does the FX Series comes with a check weight?

It depends on who you buy the scale from. The Scale from the manufacturer does not come with a weight. I forget which but, the scale and ATv3/4 retailer that many people here buy from, includes a weight as an incentive to buy the package from them.

The weight does not have to be certified. Just use the same weight every time. Once you calibrate the scale, weigh your powder cup and write the cup's weight down on the cup so you can see calibration changes in real time.

This is really what matters. So long as you use the same weight to calibrate each time, it doesn't matter if it's slightly off and thus makes your amount slightly off. Your charge weight was done using that scale so whatever it calls "44.5 grains" is what you want anyway....
