A quick tripod comparison with pictures

Re: A quick tripod comparison with pictures

Back up top for a good old thread. Anyone in the tripod market should check it out. Ordering a PRS medium and SSP-2.

platypus/Danel has been real helpful and good to deal with.

Thanks for the review/thread TB.

Re: A quick tripod comparison with pictures

Danel has always been helpful to me , and also was to my wife when she bought me a large with ssp-1 for my birthday last year.

more importantly the cradles are brilliant!

If anyone is going to break one of these it would be a Marine, my platoon had one for each team and they all survived including the small tripods that Daniel supplied. AWESOME!!</div></div>

I think this is all of the evidence any one needs for why they should get a PRS tripod.

Re: A quick tripod comparison with pictures

My gear came today, this stuff is great. I'm used to cheap tripods and this one is nice and solid. I got the medium with an SSP-2 cradle and the LRF platform. Look forward to using it.

Re: A quick tripod comparison with pictures

I ordered the Manfrotto 055XPROB after finding out that PRS was out of the medium tripod set. I will be getting a Hog Saddle and eventually a PRS when they have the medium tripod instock.

Has anyone tried the small PRS set and if so how do you like it?

Re: A quick tripod comparison with pictures

Jake,

Apologies for the absence of the medium from our stock. A huge flood wiped out the factory and we have been surviving on existing stock until last week. We were able to get some larges for stock but probably will not see the mediums until summer. The large is about 6 ounces heavier (35oz for the medium and 41oz for the large and this includes an SSP-2 attached) and adds 4.5" in length when folded up for carrying in or on a ruck, (medium w/ SSP-2 attached 16.5" and the large is 21" with a SSP-2 attached). The large does afford you the additional height to go to standing at about 63" where the medium gets you up to 43". The Manfrotto 055XPROB is a great tripod and very versatile. For comparisons sake the 055XPROB with horizontal grip head weighs in at about 100 ounces and collapsed (folded up) is a little over 36" with a minimal working height, with the grip head installed in the neighborhood of 13". Manfrotto builds good stuff unfortunately they are pretty damn proud of them, for the listed tripod and head you are in the area of $400. As for the SSP cradles they are drilled and tapped for 1/4"x20 male thread and will attach to almost any standard tripod. If you prefer a different tripod then the SLIK models we offer the SSP cradles will work. We went with the SLIK tripod on our website because it satisfied our criteria of durable, versatile, compact, lightweight, and affordable plus I carried an older model SLIK tripod for years and abused it and it is still serviceable, even if it is ugly. Let us know if you have any questions.

If you want absolute rigidity and durability I would check out Gitzo tripods. They are pricey but they are bomb proof.

As to the PRS holding up a rifle, you mean like this?

How did you attach the DLOC to the rifle? In turn how did you attach it to the tripod?
