Mine looks like yours in the finish department. I suspect it has an electroless nickel coating, but have never found out what it really is. Mine is a 1:9 twist. If the new 700s are a 1:7 or 1:8, I’ll need to locate one.
Out of curiosity, what are the real-world weights on these? Seems like Remington has listed just about everything you can buy with an HS Precision stock as 8.5 lbs, regardless of model or caliber. Maybe that's spot on... maybe not. I haven't owned one for a while and don't recall the weight from when I did.
My Remington 700 5R rifles are New Old Stock from the now defunct Remington Arms.
I have no idea of the quality of the new RemArms rifles and am still purchasing Remington Arms.
I also purchased a NIB Rem Model 7 223 ‘Coyote’ model in all Camo.
A delightful light weight rifle!
BTW, the rifle is not Nickel coated but has a SS finish that is matt.

I have 3, 2 of the older stainless with jeweled bolts, in 223 and 308, and a newer one in 6.5 CM. Below is a target I shot Monday comparing 3 types of ammo. Top left clockwise Hornady 75 gr. Match, Norma 77 gr. match and Remington 77 grain match. This was 5 shots each
into a 12-15 mph gusting wind from 2 oclock, center target was some 62 grain just to warm up. I've shot sub moa with both the Hornady and Norma so dont quite understand why they were off today but the Remington was the clear winner.

I've had some shoulder problems that make me want to get rid of my 308 5r. But I can't sell a rifle that shoots under .5 MOA & doesn't get picky if the barrel doesn't get cleaned every time a cloud passes over the sun.
Mines an early one I bought to try & learn about longer range shooting & it was a very good choice. My newer rifles might do better here or there, but the 5R still hangs!
Keep thinking about barrel shortening, muzzle threading or fluting it. But it's just so good the way it is.

Don't feel bad. I lost significant money buying the coolest of the time, expensive rifle and scope also. I even thought about selling the 5R. Turns out, for some reason, I couldn't get better results with the new rifle, and sold it at a loss. Taught me an expensive lesson.
The Rem 700 308 arrived.
Matches my 700 223 perfectly.

Trigger is as pictured with just the slightest hint of creep.
Short Action is slick.

Sold mine. Got a tikka and a terminus. Never looking back. And that’s saying something cuz I liked it quite a bit except for the junk factory trigger.
Finally, mounted a Leupold MK4 6.5-20-50, same as on the 223 Rem, on the Rem SA 308, both have 20” barrels and except for caliber are identical.
The 308 gets a ThunderBeast.
Range time today.
About as good as I can shoot.
Rem 168gr BTHP.
100 yds.

The one rifle that will never leave my safe. Just flat out shoots, and made me realize how much I like a 308 win. that I never liked.
I looked at a couple of those but never could. Something about the pos Sendero from 94 that they fixed with a totally new rifle from the custom shop, followed by a 2004 VLS pos that would sloppily close on a no-go gauge (they didn't care), and a 2009 700P that they laughed when I told them I expected better than 3 moa from match ammo (Tubb Final Finish got the groups smaller at the cost of some throat)...
I only ever bought four Remingtons. The first was a 22-250 VSSF that hammered until the throat was stupid long. Just each of the three after that sucked, and they only offered to fix the first of those.

I had a range session where the 308 with ThunderBeast seemed to jump POI during shooting.
Went home removed the can, installed the cap and checked everywhere for screw tightness.
Nothing found.
Today went back to the range and after adjusting for a low POI, shot these groups at 100yds without the can with no problems.
Next session will go back to the can.

Was my OG precision rifle I competed with years back. Shooting it just feels like home, & I Just gave mine a little make over.
They manufacture their 5R barrels in house on the same mandrel machines that made the M24 SWS sniper barrels.
No, he bought that on sale at Bass Pro.
Remington factory 308 win 26" police rifle 1.5" at 1000yds. 25 yrs ago. I rebarreled this action many times over since then.
And same factory 700 308 at 1400 yds fist sized groups . Notice the bullet stuck in the rock at a steep downward trajectory.
The new Rem 700 ADL 300 WM shot 5 into .5" with 200 gr SMK hand loads, first time out. $540 rifle...but it's now a .510 Whisper.
Examples of the old and new Rem 700, will shoot pretty good with handloads. My go to action trued for most all my builds.

I got an alert that this thread had been resurrected & the timing is perfect for me. Had my 308 out a few times this year & it continues to impress. I'd changed the stock & scope so had to re-zero. 3 shots in the low 3's with a dirty bore.
Just a great factory offering, wish all my friends could have one. I've got a Gen II in 260 but haven't played with it a lot. It's got it's work cut if it's as good a gun as my gen 1.

I saw this alert as I’m actually going to test some new loads in mine. Ran out of my old 178 amax load that consistently shot under 3/4 usually in the .4-.5’s. Best it will do with 178 eldm’s is .8’s so trying 168 eldm’s today.
I picked one up about 2 weeks ago

Was searching a long time for a 308 with the 24" barrel but couldnt find one. Mine shoots extremely well, will never part with it. Started out with the classic stock and a PMII 10x42 as a training rifle. Carries a K624i at the moment for hunting crows.
Sometimes i miss the classic stock.

I wore one out in .223. Had a few .1xx 5 shot groups and a .4xx 10 shot group somewhere. Great rifle.
I have an older Remington 700 varmint in 243 that I put into an A5 almost identical to that one, gun is a little rough around the edges and would need some effort to make 100%, but when I built it I didn’t have much money and needed to put it together a little at a time. I stoped going west for prairie dogs and it sat in the cabinet. Recently I was considering parting the gun out and using the action for a 7mm08 hunting build. Took it to the range as it hasn’t seen much time and man, I forgot how much of a hammer that thing is. Shoots 95 Berger hunter vlds at 3100 and into tiny little clovers with such ease. Then you crank it up and run 70 nosler bts at 3600 into more tiny cloverleafs and it makes you really wonder about tearing it apart.
I've got 3 like new stainless 5R 308's, may let one go someday, but they shoot so well I just can't bring myself to let one go...
Sometimes ya just can't look for specifics like 5-R or mil-spec, so I do it the hard way & type in Remington 308. Then check every filter I can to keep the unwanted stuff out. Then just scroll, sometimes going through a couple hundred guns to find hidden or poorly advertised items. Chit turns up sometimes.
