"She's just a member of the community who was carrying her weapon lawfully," he said. "And instead of running from the threat she engaged with the threat and saved several lives."

Copying the entire posting as I'd be surprised if it stayed up indefinitely. The BBC is government-run, and this doesn't fit their agenda.

A US woman has fatally shot a man who opened fire on a crowd of people with a semi-automatic rifle in Charleston, West Virginia.
Dennis Butler, a 37-year-old with an extensive criminal history, was killed after he targeted a group of around 40 people attending a birthday party.
Police spokesman Tony Hazelett said the woman's quick reaction saved lives and may have prevented a mass shooting.
It comes amid a national debate over guns after a school shooting in Texas.
Butler had driven by the area earlier on Wednesday evening when he was warned to slow down because children were playing.
He returned armed with an AR-15-type rifle and opened fire from his vehicle on the birthday-graduation party outside the apartment complex in the city.

Mr Hazelett told a news conference that the woman who fired back did not have any law enforcement background. She has not been identified.
"She's just a member of the community who was carrying her weapon lawfully," he said. "And instead of running from the threat she engaged with the threat and saved several lives."
The woman remained at the scene after the shooting, and is co-operating with investigators.
Charges will not be filed against her, police added.
Butler was found dead at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds, police said.
Mr Hazelett said it is not yet clear how Butler obtained the weapon - which he was not legally allowed to carry as a convicted felon.

The shooting comes after a teenage gunman killed 21 people at a Texas primary school with an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle that had been purchased legally.
The attack, America's worst school shooting in a decade, reignited the debate over private gun ownership, which is enshrined in the US Constitution.

Feverishly scanning typical news channels for reporting on this. Had the gunman had his way, rest assured this would be stapled immediately and directly to the two most recent. Fuck the media.

This happens all the time. The sad fact is that when it does usually no one dies and it may make a 10 second clip on local news, maybe. Mass shooting incidents while rare will dominate the news 24/7 for a month and every idiot celebrity will tweet about it. The problem is twofold, one death sells, and two people that defend themselves runs contrary to most media political goals. Obama’s cdc instigated a study to basically prove that citizens protecting themselves with firearms was a myth. They released the preliminary findings, the numbers were staggering. They literally found hundreds of thousands of incidents where citizens stopped a violent or possible violent encounter by using or simply upholstering their weapon. The study made the news for about a hour, the cdc shut the study down(you can still read in online). Liberals simply are uninterested in any fact that doesn’t support their end goal.

but, but , but if it was against the law for him to have the weapon how in the world did he get it and more importantly shouldn't that have taken away his will to even have a gun in the first place I mean I don't understand how a person who knows they aren't supposed to be in possession of a firearm would even think of having one let alone use it to shoot people. Hold on I am thinking the person didn't know he wasn't supposed to have it and didn't realize shooting and killing people is against the law that's got to be it right? I mean the laws alone should have been enough to stop this if we could just get better about informing people about the laws, we could put an end to all bad behavior.

I guess local news channel still has a page too: https://wchstv.com/news/local/victim-hospitalized-in-charleston-shooting

Well, well, looky what happens when people are free to protect themselves. I hope everyone there, especially the young folks, learned that they are sitting ducks, unless they don't want to be, like the woman that saved them all.

Favorite takeaway was the very last hot-mic comment of the female interviewer: "That woman is a badass!"
