I just had a 338 LM built on a badger M2008 with badger, bottom metal using AI mags.

using a OAL gauge and comparator I need to seat 300 grn SMK's .120 off lands to fit the mags. This seems like a lot? I am just starting load development so I have not loaded and shot at this seat depth yet? I will most likely start at touching and move back at .020 increments for accuracy testing but wow that seems like a lot?
I have some 250 grn Lapua Scenars that are a lot closer they would need to be .030 off which is more like what I am used to seeing. I would appreciate others experiance with this as the 338 LM is new to me? Thanks in advance

I have had success with the 300SMK's at .020-.060" off the lands (have not tried further, but they seem to be pretty forgiving) and the 250 Scenars shot better at .050-.060" jump. I'd give it a shot at .120" and see how it does; might be just fine.

Re: Acceptable bullet jump for 338 LM ?

I'm presently seating 250 SMKs about 0.120" off the lands in my GAP Templar 338LM. This isn't optimal, of course, but it's the best that can be done in the shorter "non-CIP" AI mags for which the rifle is set up to use.

Long-range accuracy is something that I can't speak for as there hasn't yet been a chance to stretch its legs, but at 100 yards it was punching neat cloverleafs in the process of zeroing the scope. It'll probably be another few weeks before there will be a chance to use it at 200-600 yards, and 1000+ yards won't happen until the week of July 4th.

Sound like you have very similar set up as me, GAP built mine on a badger M2008 must be normal for AI mags ? I just finished loading some 300's I'll let you know how they work out.

Newer BM is coming out which will accept more generous mags.

For those with the older ones, this is the dilemma with shooting 300s vs. 250s. You have to seat the 300s in so deeply, that you lose case capacity and velocity, offsetting the benefits of the higher BC 300s.

The other option is to just load them long and single feed the rounds.

I can go 3.677" with my Sako mags, FWIW.
