We are going to be working with this rifle for quite some time so I will be updating the review with any points of interest as I go along.

How big is your thumb? Great review and a beautiful rifle.

Re: Accuracy International AE MkII Review

Nice review , you miss a couple of features that the AW has over the AE , namely the fact the action is permanitely bonded to the chassis & the AW 10rd double feed / stck mag .

To me the main reason I like the AW over the AE is the fantastic & reliable 10rd double feed mag , easy to load , shorter protusion lenght , Longer OAL internal,to me its a major plus .
The AICS mags where designed around the Rem700 action , and where not purpose designed for the AE series rifle .

Lonewolf, excellent well written review. Much better than I could communicate (I'm a programmer).

Two years ago I called Stacey B. and asked him which AI to purchase, AW or AE MkII. He said the AE would more than serve me well. I find the only problem is after I'm gone, who to leave it to. I love the thumb hole stock, it fits me well.

Re: Accuracy International AE MkII Review

Very informative review! Thank You for that. I spoke to you through PMs about my AE vs AW dilemma and you've always been great help.

One quick question for you. I remember reading something about an AE not being able to be top-loaded? True or False?

The AX uses a true pistol grip, more like an AR15. So no worries about room behind the grip, since there is no thumbhole there.

Correct: the AE/AICS use a double-stack, single feed position design in order to feed into the narrower tubular receiver. The AW uses a double-stack double feed position design more akin to that of an AK or AR magazine, where you can push rounds straight down in from above. As such you can top load an AW while the magazine is in the rifle, but on an AE/AICS you have to remove the mag to load more rounds in.

If only they could move where the web of the thumb rides to the rear to increase the distance from the web of the hand to the trigger......

Ah, but is there any actual word on an option for the existing AE level platform for the newer chassis? AX is sexy but also AW+ prices from what I understand.

It doesn't seem to be bad at all when compared with a non-braked 20 with the same ammo.

The closest in price point would be a custom 700 in an AX AICS at this time. The AX rifles will be very similar in price to AWs, which makes sense since they share many fundamental elements between the two.

Re: Accuracy International AE MkII Review

I was told Border or Lothar Walther by AINA. However the 6.5CM barrel I inquired about was a Bartlein.

I believe the barrels that AINA is having made domestically are Bartlein. So if you buy a NEW rifle it will come with the UK made barrel. If you buy a replacement you can get a Bartlein. Check with AINA to verify.

The AE passed 500 rounds today without a hitch. I shot our state qualification today and the AE made it ridiculously easy.
