If you use rubber boots on the AI feet IMO it improves the function on all surfaces. I have had a couple as well as a some of friends, all have had the pin in the lock for the leg extension come out, a drop of lock tight has solved that problem.
The Atlas has become my favorite, lighter, lower to the ground, panning with the improved tension device which Kasey updated. As a bipod for military application which one could hold up to the abuse “Grunt Proof 100% of the time”, neither,but the AI might have the edge only because of weight.Very few devices can survive 29 Palms, including solid steel balls.
