Are guys finding the 223 conversions to offer much advantage over moderate loads in a 22/6 br, dasher, etc ?

Nothing wrong with doing it just because, just curious about other practical ( ish ) reasons.

I am definitely hoping to get my hands on a spare bolt for a magnum conversion in the future.

If I didn’t have a ton of 223 ammo/reloading supplies then to me it doesn’t make sense. The cost of the bolt and barrel can buy quite a bit of reloading gear for calibers you already have(or use to anyway)

I think for a lot of us we just like playing with them Like having a axmc in 308 and having a at/atx/ax

Yes, Sporting Services in the UK is good to go. I’ve ordered from them numerous times, all good experiences. Their website inventory is up to date in real-time, prices are adjusted to remove VAT if ordering outside Europe, but you’ll pay for the overseas shipping (although not overly crazy priced). The only thing is that they use the postal system for shipping overseas, so they have a weight limit per parcel. Not a big deal, but a consideration if you plan on ordering many or heavy items from them. Otherwise, order with confidence. They’re good people.

I have ordered quite a bit of stuff through them and they are great. You can either email or call and they will answer any question you may have. They are great and highly recommended.

Thanks! Just purchased 2 sets of thumbhole skins for a rifle I don't own.

I did the same for 2 green thumbholes for the AT. Both sets came with missing screws. I contacted Mile high for one set and they never responded for the second set. I emailed sporting services and they had them in the mail that day. They also told me that it’s pretty common for these to be shipped missing screws so take a look at them when they arrive. I didn’t on either one until I was installing them on a rifle.

Good to know. How long ago did you get the green ones? Seems those are the hardest to find. Curious if AI will stop producing all the skins since the rifles are discontinued?

I ordered them July 23,2023. I didn’t buy the first AT until November 23 and the second AT January 31, 2024 right after they announced they were discontinuing the AT. I think only time will tell if they will continue to produce them. I will be trying to find another set of thumbholes and skins for cerakoting once I finish some other stuff here soon. The green ones definitely seem to be the ones that most people are after.

Mine are new rifles. Looks like AI changed the color at some point. It does match the new rifles made in 23 purchased at Eurooptic though. So as long as you purchase a new rifle, I think it will match.

There really isn’t any from my new limited experience. It’s just a classic look from AI which I really like personally. The front of the grip seems to be from the same angle on both the AW and the AT.

Yes, there is another member here doing 3-D printed collars that go around in the AICS magazine to adapt it to the axsr mag well.

I love the double stack AI mags. As well as the tikka ctr ones. Especially prefer them for the length. I wouldn’t want anymore than 10 round AICS mags hanging out the bottom.

Think I’d just look elsewhere for an action before I started permanently modifying my $11,000 rifle

That's why I went the collar route, but either way it's nice to be able to run (relatively) cheapo AICS mags. I do have the AXMC adapter as well so might just drill the chassis also. What's nice about the collars is you can tune the height of the magazines as well, and I made some personal tweaks for the ones that I run that also add a feedramp to the collar the prevent breech face nose dives entirely on shorter rounds. It's nice to have reliable full spectrum short action caliber compatibility ... those 308 adapted LA mags are pretty pricy for what they are IMO.

If the factory conversion mags were cheaper/better and I didn't already have as many AICS mags as I do I would be more inclined to run it the way it came.

No advantage. The grip is the same one in the original pistol grip the rifle comes with stock. The only thing you change is the grip backstrap and the rear stock pieces. I (and many others it seems) like the thumbhole look better.

I'd still take a double stack AW style mag over any AICS mag any day of the week. It feeds smoother, way easier to load, lower profile, can load bullets way longer, doesn't sound like a cheap ass magazine when you are cycling the gun.
