Well it was time for the yearly AI AXMC rifle colour change.
I thought something different, 5 colour Digital camo.
I did not think it would take 36 hours!
Full strip down, degrease, blast and then the layers of Cerakote H Series.
Over 1600, yes 1600 individual stencils applied, that alone took 3 hours.
2 hours to take them all off, then the reassemble.
The rifle, 3 barrels, 2 Moderators, Scope, Spur mount, Arca rails, 4 magazines and other bits.
Glad I only get bored once a year!View attachment 7564681View attachment 7564683View attachment 7564685

It’s almost got the same color scheme...The Utah Highway Patrol sticker really ties the room together
Normal process, just did the plastics and rubber with the scope at a lower temp.@walkabout how did you go about doing the rubber ergo grip?
that looks amazing..
No did not debond, we have done a few now and experimented with one ages ago, 100 degrees C and it did not melt the epoxy.Did you debond the action?

I do the AI actions at 95 degrees Celsius, Plastics at 70 degrees C, Scopes at 60 degrees C, Normal Metal at 120 degrees C.What's your normal temp then for doing the action with H cerakote I'm seriously considering having mine recoated but it hammers and dont want to debond her.
What temp did you run the plastics?

We use Celsius in the UK.
It'a a complete "Cluster F" here for measurements, we use Litres for fuel and drinks, Miles for distance and speed, Stones or Kilo for weight. Celsius for temp but inches for rain fall...and it goes on!Thanks homie! And yes I am aware of the UK's continued use of the metric system
just a little reminder for everyone...

The Devcon aluminum putty max working range is 250F. That is the temperature which I put my rifle in the oven and can peel the action from the chassis since the putty gets soft. So if your applicator uses the typical 250F or 300F curing temp, I would be concerned that the epoxy could lose it's properties. What's your normal temp then for doing the action with H cerakote I'm seriously considering having mine recoated but it hammers and dont want to debond her.

For sureWhich is why I said we do the AI actions at 95C and checked that with AI.
thanks for the info. I was curious of the debonding temp as well.Which is why I said we do the AI actions at 95C and checked that with AI.

I found a "used" SFP AI AXMC .308 complete bolt assembly (in dark earth no less) at EO at a killer price and with mil discount. It arrived today and it's never seen a round. Sometimes you just luck into something.
Now I can ditch that adapter thing, thing, thing and the LFP 308 body!

Shit! I could have sworn it was advertised as DE but it's definitely PB, what a dope. Can't complain at the price I got it for though so it's a keeper.I believe that's actually Pale Brown, but nice snag!
That good looking rifle...love the AT with the AX buttstock!AT LE’s first outing.
That 16.5” .308 was spitting out 168 SMK’s at 2550fps.

Don’t mix your fire forming loads with your formed loads. You get stuck bullets and powder in your action. Sometimes it provides opportune photo time though.

Which Sphur scope mount model/height is that? I have the NV rail also on my AT and I am looking for scope mount that would clear the NV rail.
Looks much better in that colorWish it was mine, but it’s not. Thought y’all might be interested
