Accuracy question: TC compass or remington 700

Idk ab in .300wm, but I just sighted in a compass for a buddy of mine, chambered in 6.5cm, and I hated that rifle. was getting 2 moa with the factory precision hunter ammo. cycled and felt like shit. Although I've sworn off any more Remington rifles, I would take one in a heart beat over the compass I shot.

The Compass has a very tapered barrel that goes from small to tiny. It will shoot a couple good groups until it gets hot. It's a cheap hunting rifle, not a target rifle. And the new "safe" trigger on them is crap. Resale is also nil. Buy the 700 if you will be doing anything more than hunting.

I own a TC Compass chambered in 308. My best 5-shot group @100 yds is 0.533" but the gun generally shoots about 0.840" groups using 168 gr ELD Match with 42.5gr IMR 4895, 0.020" off the riflings using Forsters dies. The trigger is decent and adjustable. The bolt is a little sloppy when cycling but functions well enough. The barrel is threaded with a thread protector. I purchased the rifle last year for $249 and received a $75 mail-in rebate making it the cheapest under 1 MOA rifle in my collection.

Correction to my initial post: I'm using IMR 4895. I mistyped IMR 4896.. whoops.

My son's compass in 308 shoots Barnes 150 ttsx at a half moa, handloads over h4895. I had tried some heavier bullets but they were typically around moa. It has more features than my 700s, so if given the choice, I'd buy another compass based on that experience and the ability to silence
