Accurate .223 Mag question

I'm trying to help you , READ THE LINK!
When your done reading the thread link , then you can take a dial caliper and measure what the longest oal is with a modified mag. I cant answer your question because I'm not at home to measure a mag .

OP, Im not sure, I have only sanded out to the 2.550 like you already are.

You can go further sanding and get rid of the front material all together but I cant say whether the follower would still play along nicely or not though or if you would meet your length requirement. Ive always just heard of people single feeding 223 when it gets that long.

Im trying to help you, READ HIS POST
I did read his post . all he has to do is measure without the sleeve and there is the answer to the question.
You can't run it without the sleeve , but you can take the material off the front of it.
that info is in the link I posted .
If he doesn't have a mag to measure then I will be glad to give him that info when I have a chance to measure mine.

forrestgump01, thanks for the link. If I had one to measure I wouldn't have to ask. But thank you for trying to help. If the follower can't be made to work without the sleeve in place then that pretty much answers my question.

I can measure when I get home tonight and take pics

O.P, to answer your question , yes you can.
I took mine apart and took some measurements.
I have milled about .060 ths off the front lip (plastic sleeve) leaving .050 ths of material still there . that puts me at 2.590 oal of clearance in the mag .
Now it's possible to do the same with the rear lip. there is .080 ths of material .
You could remove .040 ths and leave .040 ths putting you at .2630
If you want more room take another .010 ths off of both giving you 2.650
that would leave .040 ths on the front and .030 ths on the rear.
If you could get access to a small mill it would make it easy and look good .
It can be done with a dremel but your gonna have to go slow and take your time.

Here's a quick slide show video how you can modify the insert to run 2.630 OAL.

I've done this to two mags so far and it works great. No feed issues in the Defiance.

The trick is to fill the space between the two ribs at the back of the insert with JB weld, then mill away all or most of that back rib. I did it with a cheap Chinese drill press with a stick and a couple C clamps.

After I shot this video, I milled off another 0.030 to get the full 2.630"

I suppose, like the pics above, you could also mill away part of the front wall and get even longer if you wanted to. Not sure how long we will need to run those new 90 grain A Tips just yet.
