I know there is a lot of info spread around.

Considering the mtr has a match chamber and plastic pillars what do you guys think is a must do for ringing out accuracy in a mtr?

Given a nrl or prs set of rules of not replacing barrel or stock what options are out there?

Just curious what everyone thinks. My mtr shoots decent, moa @ 50. My 457 at one actually shoots a little better out of the box than the mtr.

Both have ok glass on them. Mtr has diamondback tactical and at one has a midas tac.

Aluminum pillars, glass bedding. Upgraded trigger.

Or, just buy a Vudoo.

I've played this game with my old CZ 455. You can spend several hundred dollars and a few months trying to get a 15% improvement, or you can just buy a better rifle. Buy once, cry once.

Haha yeah a vudoo is on the short list for sure pending if i get a bonus this year.

Honestly, like a lot of people, i like to tinker with stuff.
I have a yodave on the way for the mtr.
The at one is my daughters and im not ready to spoil her with a 1lb trigger just yet.

Ive seen a lot on reshaping the firing pin just not sure if thats produced concrete results or not.

I still have enough bedding stuff left to do 1 rifle. May bed the 457 and see what shakes out

I did just about everything you can do to a CZ...aluminum pillar, glass bedded, Yo Dave trigger, shaped firing pin (which doesn't do anything unless you are having ignition issues, btw) etc. Best group I could get with Center X ammo was .42"...this was from a starting point of .52".

I bought a Bergara B14R, for less than what I had into the CZ (which I immediately sold). Same ammo lot, zero rifle modifications, shot averages went to .39". Added a Timney Calvin Elite and a KRG Bravo stock, went down to .32". Best group I've shot with the B14R was a .27" (all @50 yards, 5 shot groups).

First 5 shot group I tried through my friends brand new Vudoo was a .22", and I wasn't really trying all that hard.

Again...buy once, cry once. I like the tinkering also...but I will have a Vudoo someday soon.

Nice. Yeah hoping they give us bonuses this year. If so i will have a vudoo. But i will still keep the mtr for base class prs stuff.

How do you like the Midas tac

Loosen the barrel screws and retorque to 25in/#s. Check for movement between stock fore end and barrel when snugging the action screws, bed if needed. Check the leade to see if the lands are smeared into the grooves. ( Guess this should be #1)
Tried other lots? It should be shooting better or at least as well as the @1.

Definitely needs bedded. I can move barrel side to side when action screws are torqued

I would check the chamber and barrel first thing with a bore scope, best I have seen from a MTR is low 3's for an average at 50 yds. I hear about them shooting better but I havent seen that. I would go about 25 in lbs on barrel screw torque and bed if everything else checks out ok.
