No, what Lindy and other experts who taught me how to read it said is take your yardage and find your angle of elevation and then multiple THAT by the cosine.

So 654yds is, for instance, a 15.25 MOA adjustment, 94% of 15.25 would be a 14.5MOA adjustment. 614yds would have given you more like a 13.5MOA adjustment.

FYI, since my scope is 1/4 MOA clicks I round down on the initial adjustment (650 yds is really about half way between 15.25 and 15.5) and then up on my final adjustment (94% of 15.25 is actually 14.34) in a vain attempt to balance fudge factor.

Re: ***Angle Consine Indicator***

Actually, I didn't make that stuff up. Taking the elevation for the actual range, and multiplying that by the cosine of the angle is called the Improved Rifleman's Rule, and it's documented here on Sierra's External Ballistics web site:

Angled Fire Explained

It's very easy to do with a Mildot Master - which can also be used to measure the angle.

BTW, in current versions of Exbal, you can enter either the angle, or the cosine of the angle, and click a button to indicate which you entered. So, you might just want to upgrade Exbal to a current version.

Re: ***Angle Consine Indicator***

Well, I just mentioned you by name because you specifically referenced that previously in this thread. That and I have absolutely no qualifications whatsoever

Re: ***Angle Consine Indicator***

I know this is going to piss off some people who already own one,I never hear this mentioned but FYI the angle cosine is now offered in a "milspec" version by Brownells for about $50 more its waterproof to 3 feet.

Re: ***Angle Consine Indicator***

I've been great - and one of the reasons I am was that I skipped the SHOT Show.

Just been hanging out enjoying the great weather here - it was a glorious sunny 76 degrees here today at the beach.

How're you?

Re: ***Angle Consine Indicator***

Holy crap im more confused now than before I read this thread! I have been trying to find out when an anti-cant and angle/cosign really becomes necessary and also how to use them properly (well the anti-cant is pretty obvious). Even the people with them are confused! LOL

I guess its time to see if YouTube can help...
