Suppressors Action and Practical Shooting Match Competitors

Re: Action and Practical Shooting Match Competitors

1911 (in 40cal for match guns). If I shot more of it I'd get an XD for Production class, but I can barely keep up with my Para and my single stack.

Re: Action and Practical Shooting Match Competitors

I shoot a Glock 24 w/ a Vanek trigger, ICE mag well, Dawson sights and +5 mag extensions. I used to shoot L10 w/ my 1911. Don't worry about what anything costs, if you want to be competitive you'll have more money in ammo than equipment. I've only shot IDPA a couple times, it's mostly IPSC for me. I love it. I told one of the high "A" class guys I shoot with that I wanted to shoot 1k rounds a month in practice, he just looked at me and said, "why not 4k"? That's the mentality there.

Re: Action and Practical Shooting Match Competitors

I mainly shoot Limited with an STI Tactical in 9x19 or an Edge in 40. Havent shot Open or Single Stack in years. I dont live behind enemy lines so I have never shot L-10.

For Production I shoot either a Steyr M9 or a Glock 17.

My Revo is a Lee tuned 625.

L-2598

Re: Action and Practical Shooting Match Competitors

I shoot USPSA Production class with a stock Glock 35. I do my own reloading so the loads fell less than 9mm but have more weight to get the poppers.

Re: Action and Practical Shooting Match Competitors

I shot L10 in USPSA with my 1911, and I shot CDP with it in IDPA. It worked well for both.

Re: Action and Practical Shooting Match Competitors

USPSA here too. I started with a factory 9mm Glock 17. Shot Production for a while and then added ext. releases and mag well and shot Limited. After a few years I switched to a .40S&W G24. For the last two years I've been using a STI .40S&W

BTW, the 24 will be up for sale soon

. I need $$$$ for a new optic.

Re: Action and Practical Shooting Match Competitors

USPSA if you want to have fun, IDPA if you want to pretend to simulate a real life scenario. I have shot both and USPSA is what I stuck with. I feel the best bet is to start off with a Glock, XD or M&P and shoot production. If you like it move up to limited and then head to open, be advised that it is very addictive and very expensive.

Re: Action and Practical Shooting Match Competitors

I used to shoot USPSA pretty regular, now it's kinda hit or miss. Production division with XD 9mm Tactical. It's been a great gun for 17k rounds. Had a broken trigger spring at 15k but thats been it as far as problems.

Re: Action and Practical Shooting Match Competitors

I shoot USPSA Single Stack with my Kimber .45s, and Production with my 9mm S&W M&P Professional.

If you're going to compete, the only choices for Production should be in 9mm, and Single Stack should be .40 or .45. Limited should be .40 and open should be 9mm (or .38 super if you're rich).

Re: Action and Practical Shooting Match Competitors

Lil Joe,
It really depends on what you're looking to accomplish, your competitive personality type, etc.
If you're an obsessive compulsive like many of us competitive shooters, I wouldn't mess around in terms of your starting platform . This is a more extensive topic but the best on-line resource is Brian Enos Forums where most of us serious USPSA/IPSC crew hang out; there is a beginners section with lot's of good "getting started" info. Contrary to popular opinion, it doesn't require a small fortune to shoot either USPSA or IDPA. It all depends upon you and what floats your boat. Can competitive advantage be gained through equipment -- you bet. Just like in the LR rifle games. Do the top shooters win due to what equipment they have? No, they win because they work at it harder than the others.

Otherwise, a XD, Glock, 1911 or whatever you already have and jumping into IDPA is a good way to start.

Most of all, have fun with it. I've found it to be a great hobby/obsession over the years.

Unless it's a Colt SAA fired one-handed, your chest has boobs.

Re: Action and Practical Shooting Match Competitors

In all seriousness we can either shoot revolvers (with long barrels) or .22lr semi-auto's (also with long barrels). This is all due to UK law.

You have my empathy. Of course, everyone knows criminals would never use revolvers or .22LRs.

I'm assuming you meant Production division.
