Looking to build a 300 Norma but am unsure what size boltface will be needed? I understand the standard Rem 700 Mag bolt face is too small for the 300 Norma but at the same time, 338LM can be built on a rem 700 mag boltface although it is not ideal. I'm looking at pulling the trigger on a Tac300 for the build but wanted to see if I could get some advise/feedback on here first. Thank you in advance for any help.

RWS thanks for the quick reply. I guess my question is can I get by with a rem 700LA with a mag boltface for a 300 Norma or do I need to jump up to a lapua boltface? I believe you are correct about the Tac300 not being available in a LM boltface.

Have Robert build you one, I have some time (not enough) behind one of his 300NM's and it is a truly impressive rifle.

208 A-Max's and I believe the rifle owner (unfortunately not me) said they were chronographed at 3300 fps. Surgeon action in an XLR chassis. If I could find a buyer for a kidney I would have Robert build me a clone of that rig. Recoil with a Surefire brake was a long slow push, very manageable.

Edited to correct bullet.

A friend of mine had his built on a rem 700 long action that started out as a 30/06. Dave Bruno did the smithing work and even made a quicky clip "spl?" work.
