Adding grip and removing gloss from stock?

I got a nib thumb hole stock in a deal a few weeks ago. It is a oak color 2 tone laminate. When I'm out hunting the last thing I want is something shiny. So I was thinking about that rubberized spray paint? Anyone ever do something like that? I looking for a flat dark color(black, green, brown) and some kind of grippy texture.
What did you use?
How is it holding up?
A thoughts would be great.

Rustoleum has a rubber texture and sand texture spray paint at walmart. Several colors.

Spray from 12-18" away in very light coats for best matte and texture properties. Takes an hour or so to set up, 3 or so days for a full cure. Quite durable if you follow proper prep, procedure and cure.

I'm getting ready to put some of that 3m grip tape on the fore end of my aics 1.5. I'll let you know what I think by the end of the day if you want

The 3m grip tape will DEFINETLY give you grip. We just put some on my buddy's running boards. Used his finger to smooth it down...once. His finger started bleeding. We smoothed the remaining with a socket. It seems to be the equivalent of durable 40 grit sandpaper. Works very well so far.

I'm thinking the Rustoleum rubber paint. Then maybe some grip tape where I need it. There are some cool color options on the Rustoleum site.

I think if I were close enough that I was concerned that a deer/elk/moose/etc may see a glint from my rifle I would just shoot it.

I had a similar issue, I scuffed it up using very very fine sand paper and then rubbed it down with rubbing alcohol. Then used JB weld to add texture, use a sponge to get your desired amount of texture and then sand with a lower grit San paper to get rid of the peaks. They will cut the shit out of you, trust me. Then used rustoleum od green and a few coats of matte clear. About 10 bucks and 15 minutes. If you're interested I can go into deeper detail.

Did you do this on a wood stock? I'd like to see pictures please, I'd like to add a palm swell on my wood adl stock, been thinking of it lately

Yeah, it's on a boyds tacticool that came on my .22 makes it far more tolerable. I usually F this picture thing up..






Also, try to make sure you don't scuff up any of the stock that your not going to texturize because it will show through the paint job.
