I love iron sights. I love heavy barreled rifles. I really would love a Bergara offered iron sights on their rifle when I get tired of shooting groups with a scope. CZ of course offers this but not a match grade heavy barrel. I thought about a 10/22 build with a Feddersen barrel that they offer with williams sights. They just don't quite offer the level of accuracy I want tho when I want to put the scope back on and shoot a match. I'm talking about when your shooting next to other very accurate bolts and need that same edge. I have both, a 10/22 Feddersen in a Titan and sold my Bergara cause I'm an idiot. But if I could get a Bergara with a set of irons...

So my plan is to buy another Bergara and try to figure out a set of williams that would work. I need the barrel diameter a couple of inches in front of the action, and 3/4" from the muzzle if anyone could help me out?

*Also, I know I can't shoot the same accuracy with just irons, I just want to be able to take off the scope and plink.

Could always mount a Lyman model 93 globe up front with your choice of rear sight. IIRC the M24 has a similar front sight set up. Plenty of companies make great rear sights to match.

I always wondered what that front post was used for on the m24. That's a good idea that I know nothing about. Is there a standard post it mounts to? It might seem easier to mount a set of williams like you see on a shotgun slug barrel or a R700 BDL.

Why not purchase an old match rifle? It'll have the diopoter sights already fitted and will probably cost less than a new set of sights. Old heavy match barrel target rifles are reasonably cheap so might be worth looking at to sate the need for using iron sights. They'll still probably out shoot you to start with.

His problem , was as mine , not getting another rifle , but installing irons on one he owns and a Bergara , to boot , as is my BMR , it is a problem , and , if he’s like me a challenge. The Bergaras are great rifles , one of the few new rifles made of plastic that ARE great platforms , this is because great men , (Marines ,who are all great riflemen first and foremost)had a hand in their development. I being a Marine , have been impressed by them ,this goes beyond their accuracy , their triggers are good and they can easily be swapped to better ones , any REM 700 trigger , the magazines , they give you two , are , reliable , tough beasts and easy to disassemble and clean , the bolt is beautifully engineered and machined art.The one Problem is lack of irons , you can find rears that mount on the scope rail ,and with a picatinny type clamp at the muzzle a set of any brand a2 types is usable , a little high , maybe funny looking ,but , I think a workable sight set.
My problem is I want them low and perfect AND easily removable and / or replaceable with a scope , as I want to shoot NYSporterifle with a scope and practice AQT with iron sights ! Right now I’m focusing on a M1 carbine front sight bushed to mount to the threaded area and held with a set screw or the key and pin of the M1 or both which might mean it stays on,I’ve used scopes with front sights before , depends on how much they impinge in the field this sight is small so maybe no problem until I see I won’t know , for a rear sight I’m thinking a NECG low profile peep , they’re a little pricey but small and fully adj.there are really expensive stuff out there, but they are steel and rugged and mount to the rail easily….and might match up to the M1 blade alright( still figuring)!height wise.it would e good for someone to make aftermarket sights for Bergaras
I’m sorry this long winded ,did not mean to hijack either

Escape velocity,
Here’s what I arrived at after heading off on one tangent ,this was an M1 carbine front sight ,bushed and adapted for the threaded portion of the muzzle, sight was less than $20 at Numrich,an NECG rear was thought of but the numbers said with it the front sight needed to be higher .second tangent was a tech sight for a Ruger 1022with a rail,Ruger rail is a rail with a tip off added in the middle, this is also accomplished by a Weaver TO 9 mount which also has weaver slots machined ,this Is what I am using ,I will redrill the weaver mount for the Bergara pattern holes on the Bergara action ,the Tech sight will then mount on it,the Tech sight comes with a front sight ,this needs a mount( take note -the Ruger barrels sight mount is integral to the barrel , it’s not a separate part) however,Tech sights ,makes a sight mount for the Ruger sight that slips over a .920 bull barrel, the Bergara steel bbl is .690 at the Muzzle ,this,I think leaves the ability to be adapted to the Bergara bbl with some ingenuity and craftsmanship, and will then mount and hold the front sight which is an M1 Garand/ M 14 kind of sight but with elevation capability like an m16,.The rear sight has both elevation and windage adjustments. Not as perfect as I wanted but the best I could find.

The parts are ,tsr200L,rear sight, comes with a front sight ,ts157,tech sight bull bbl adapter, you should get the sight adjustment tool( $5) Weaver rail TO 9,(Amazon) this the best I could do and it’s not here yet so I can’t know if there will be a glitch in the works I have not figured on. But when I get the parts I’ll post in a few days.Less than a bill $.

This it so far,the front sight is not secured yet it’s probably gonna use set screws ,1 on each side.

I have to add this the rear is great the front is ..uh.. well unique! Others are not available ,if they are let me know, the best front I’ve “seen” is the No Dak that exists only in rumor and allegations, but would be perfect ,for a .690 bbl,
another stickie point! A custom mount could be made $.

it is now a finished project… almost,I had three 8x32 set screws ,for some reason after tapping the holes and running the set screw in the screw siezed and I could not get it out it also work hardened so a drill couldn’t touch it . I had to heat the whole base red hot and let it cool by air to anneal it,then drilled it out and removed it.the I dropped another set screw,my floor is a barn floor ,a 8x32 set screw, gone! 1 left,so right now it is held by two regular 8x32 oval head screws until a trip trip to hardware. But ,held it is and properly graduated to the rear sight using levels . So now it’s sight in time inthe morning

They work , on the fifty foot indoor range,I only had to go 1 click up,an 2 left to be dead on ,set the scope up today so now it takes a minute or two to change from one to the other, for whatever reason I might want too.I have set screws to apply tomorrow, and I made them into grubscrews for better hold.a slightly wider aperture will be in the works.
