Adjustable Bag Rider

My question is about shooting technique while using an Adjustable bag rider with low profile silver Protektor bag that goes with it.

Are you supposed to use these with a bipod or a front shooting rest? I have accutac bipod and Protektor shooting rest.

Rest: The real question is Are you supposed to shoot "free recoil" to allow the rifle to track backwards with almost no input from cheek, soft shouldering, and grip? If you use bipod do you shoot it the same to allow the recoil to track backwards freely?


My setup is a Bergara 7prc in MPA chassis with 3 Gray Ops weightS and a 419 sidewinder brake accutac bipod.

That's all basically dictated by the type of shooting you are doing.

Im guessing you are shooting just for fun. Paper or steel? distance?

So I am shooting from a concrete bench at 100 yards. On paper. Yes it is for fun and I'm not a competition shooter.

The other day I was at the range and I seen a guy shooting a A.i. 300 prc with the adjustable bag rider and bag to go with it, and accutac bipod with skis on it. He mentioned that he let's the rifle track backwards and he barely touches it even with his cheek. When I went down to retrieve my targets I noticed most of his groups were damn near in the same hole or tight clover leaf. Kinda inspired me to get the bag rider. However I don't have skis or a special mat they slide on.

I think the first question you need to ask yourself is…. “What is the realistic grouping capability of this rifle?” It kind of sounds like you’re starting to search for one hole… or clover hole grouping. The rifle that costs 4x more should theoretically shoot a bit better.

Are you shooting factory or hand loads?
What is your actual grouping now?

As for technique on a bench… I just treat it like a barricade. Natural point of aim, trigger follow through, square yourself to the target. On a bench I load into the bipod and use a pint size game changer as a rear bag

I can make handloads but for now I'm choosing to shoot hornady 180g match ammo. I think I should work on my technique first this is my first magnum cartridge rifle. I've shot a little over half inch but I think I did it by accident. Last time I went to the range it was 3/4. I guess I want to be as consistent as possible and want the groups to be as small as possible. Definitely don't have $11,5k for a rifle to shoot. I think that guy has a lot of bread. I figure the adjustable bag rider would assist in perhaps better accuracy and consistency. I was unsure about tracking and shooting free recoil. I was able to speak with David over and long range and he gave me quite a bit of insite
