Be careful with the IP cams because it's pretty common for people to hack into those cams. In fact I remember over at 4Chan or Reddit where there was a thread dedicated to listing people's IP cam links.
Your statement is out of context. Your referring to these Ring, Amazon, Home Depot, Lowes, Costco, etc. IP based cameras that either plug directly into your home network/router or connected to your home wifi... Not IP cams as a whole. This solidifies my statements above, that your residential grade crap cameras/systems are not the same animal as the commercial systems I mentioned above.
There is no link between the cameras/IP camera LAN and the internet on a properly installed CCTV IP POE system. its closed circuit. 2 complete different subnets, no gateway/ internet link on the IP camera subnet.. Separate LAN port on the NVR for connecting to your network. Cameras record to NVR's internal hard drives.. We are not a believer in cloud ANYTHING. Some clients demand it, and we will do some cloud storage, replication, hosting stuff for them but only after protections outlined in writing for us and they have signed off on acknowledging it.
Using non standard ports, vpns, enterprise grade routers with threat prevention, instrusion detection, etc., bypass rules, dedicated vlans for specific devices (cameras, access controllers, video intercom) and strict rules limiting those vlans access are all things to prevent these types of hacks, intrusions of privacy, etc.... we don't open our NVR/cameras to the web...typical setup for clients that want to monitor cameras remotely is Wireguard VPN on mobile device, laptop, tablet, etc and camera viewing app configured with local LAN static... no open ports to the www, no cloud service or 3rd party middleman your video feeds are passing through to be hacked...
I would NEVERRRR buy any of these residential grade units, come home and plug them into my router or connect to my wifi... RING doorbell and cameras..... HAHAHAHHAHA. good luck with that, ill pray for you
Now if you like the man or creepers watching your every move and looking at your pee pee you should have RING cameras all over your house...Wasnt it just a few months back a Ring customer was awarded a few million because Ring employees sitting in an office in (AZ I think the office was) were watching this women and posting the nude or compromising content to reddit or something like that?? Just saying..
