New here. I’ve read the rules regarding posting an item for sale in the forum. I am not trying to sell it here. I would, if I had the credentials, but I don’t. I’d like to get an idea for what it’s worth so I can put it on gun broker. I bought this off my neighbor ( fire sale) before he moved. I was with him when he purchased the rifle a year prior at our local gun store. I know it was only shot about 100 rounds. Stainless steel 24” barrel chambered in .308, 1:11 twist rate with 5R rifling. When he bought it, he had the muzzle threaded to 5/8-24, bolt knob (the football) removed and threaded a tactical style handle on. It has Nightforce bases and and elite Hunter Timney trigger. I bought it off of him because he needed the cash, I sold the H.S precision stock and the Nightforce scope on eBay, but obviously I can’t sell the barreled action. Am I even able to ship this? Is it worth more if I keep the scope bases and the trigger with it? It I hear a lot of good things about custom actions these days, but not a whole lot about Remington 700 actions except all the bad stuff.

You don't hear much about Remington actions because the custom act have all the features you used to have to pay a gunsmith a bunch of money to add to the Remingtons. Also the bankruptcy and Remington not making guns for a while...

That said, I have a 700 5r gen 2 and it's a great rifle just not as great as a custom or semi-custom. It sounds like he had a gen 1 rifle built up like the 5r gen 2. I'd guess $750-$1000 but it could go higher or lower depending on the crowd that sees it.

I'd start out at $1000 for the package.

As a non-FFL individual, the only way you can ship it is to an FFL and you have to use USPS. UPS and FedEx won't ship a rifle for an individual.

Am I even able to ship this?

I'm not sure how California works with shipping rifles, which is what you are trying to do. In other states we are allowed to ship them to the buyers FFL.

Is it worth more if I keep the scope bases and the trigger with it?

I would think so.

It took me over a year to sell my Factory 5r Gen 2 with an area 419 scope base and Geissele Super 700 trigger. I only got $850 for it, round count was under 500 and condition was very good.

It got tons of interest and shitty trade offers, but I only got the one serious offer.

If you're a CA resident then technically you as a non-FFL should be able to ship to an out of state FFL via USPS ONLY. However most USPS locations are ignorant of their own policy and may (read: will almost certainly) give you a hassle. In my opinion your best bet would be to post it on CalGuns for like $600 - 700 and sell it via Private Party Transfer to another buyer at an FFL in person. Some CA gun stores also offer shipping to out of state FFLs but you will lose a lot of the value of your item as those services can be expensive (up to $250 last time I asked around).

Same here, except I never sold it. Finally shipped it to PVA and had it rebarrelled in 6.5CM. Hit steel at 1350 my first outing. Those older Remy stainless jewelled actions are great IMHO. I bought a CdG and honestly, I prefer the Remmy (jewelled) action, its just a bit smoother, the newer ones, not so much.

Keep it and build yourself a nice accurate rifle. If you just have to sell it, $5-700 for just the action.
