Have a stock here I am working on.Ordered a color stick to match the
wood..How do you use these hard color sticks..There were no instructions
on how to use them..I assume it has to be heated or something..Thanks

Always go slightly darker than the surrounding finish. Similar principle to sewing a patch on a shooting jacket, wherein you use a thread of a slightly darker shade than the patch fabric.

Go slow, start with a clean surface, ensure that the stick is warm enough to fill the scar without excess pressure and wipe the area with a damp cloth, several minutes after application. If the filler comes away, you may have a surface adhesion issue which requires a scraping away of finish, perhaps removal of oil/ varnish/polyurethane that has been deposited in the damaged area. Make haste slowly, use good natural light if you can and ... once you have successfully restored the colour, leave the stock for a while before applying a sealer coat of oil/varnish.
