Advice/thoughts on chest rig please....

I am looking to get a chest rig. something versatile, high speed low drag, but also not terribly expensive. I shoot a .308 700, and an AR15, a 1911, and a Kahr cw40... not all at once, and i'm not HOOAH enough to want to carry it all around at once. but, i would like to have a rig that can accomidate my gear without breaking the bank.

My only experience is with cheap, government issue bulky
uncomfortable vietnam era LBEs and IBAs that i only ever used at basic/AIT and once or twice since then...

Have you thought about a belt setup? I've never found the need to carry so much gear that I need a chest rig as a civilian. For "tactical" type classes I use a VTAC Brokos belt which works pretty good. I've got it set up as a home defense kind of deal. For competitions I use the standard USPSA style belt since I don't need the extra crap but everything else is in the same

Here's my setup before I moved some stuff around and added a few things. Oh and I took the gigantic knife off since something that big wasn't needed. I've got a little fixed blade right behind the pistol now.

Tactical Tailor MAV (made in Washington ST. too) used one in Iraq and in Afghanistan. All modular, get the bib and you can add and subtract as needed. Holds tight to your body, good coverage. +1 for tactical tailor .... excellent company, excellent gear.


You may want to reconsider a chest rig. I used a tac vest in Iraq that had a holster, mag pouches, upper pockets, etc on the front of the vest. I found that if I were to go prone, I had to unzip the vest and lay the panels open so I could lay flat on the ground. A belt that holds the items on your sides or behind you would be much more practical if you plan to shoot prone.

Yeah chest rigs are not so great for laying in the prone so might want to go the belt route.

I think the modular frog rig or the MWR light is right up your alley. Has enough real estate for whatever pouches you need to attach.
