Well the last few days we have had a very windy, raining storm here in the Redding area. Woke up this morning to a beautiful sunny day. I have always had good luck right after a big storm as the yotes hole up and usually do not do much hunting durning storms.

So I head out by myself about noon....drive a hour to a new spot that I have been wanting to try. Set up the call and get myself set up and hit the call.
About 10 min. into the stand I see a yote coming from way out. He makes his way into my area. He gets about 80 yrds from me and I bark at him to stop him. I take my shot......and miss!!!! *&#@^%* No excuses...it was all me.

Ok....I go to another spot I have never tried before. The area is open for miles....but flat and no cover at all. I mean no trees, bushes or big rocks...nodda.

I find ONE large rack. About the size of a med. sized suitcase. I put the call out about 80 yrds up wind of me. I hunker down trying to make myself as small as possible....hit the call. And bam...not more then five min.s I see this yote coming from way out.

He is heading straight at me....I am scrunched down as far as I can go and still aim my rifle. He keeps coming....he gets about 300 yrds from the call and stops...looking all around. He trouts in another 50-75 yrds and then starts trying to circle down wind of the call. I have to move to keep a bead on him....He gets about 150 yrds out and stops facing the call and kinda quartered away from me. I figure I better take him. I hold on his chest and squeeze my shot.

BAM.....he flops back over on his back and does not move. I hit the pup distress just encase....after 5 min. I collect my call and then walk out to the yote. Wow...the .243 shooting 75gr hollow points really did a number. Looks as though the round entered his chest and exited the bottom of his ribcage and threw the bottom of his stomach...messy! Would not call this a fur friendly round.

I did one more stand with nothing coming to call. Overall....a good day.

Take care,Stan

BAHAHAHAHAHA!! did a number? sheesh man..lol
I used a .30 110 vmax for the first time on a yote today. Seemed to go in and not come out. not very messy on the outside, but the hole was big and his insides were mush.

Ive also heard they eat up a couple days before a storm as well.
look for cloudy conditions a day or two before a storm, in the dark of the moon...(which just happens to be this w/e)

I mainly use the "lightning jack" (I use a FoxPro OCC e-call) as my do all call. Every time I try something else I never call anything in.
