I just pulled the factory 26" barrel on my AI AW. I considering something shorter. Do I...

A) Just send the 26" off to get shortened
or
B) Avoid the hassle of finding and sending it off to a smith, sell (or keep) the 26, and just buy a 20" from MileHigh?

Considerations: I like the profile on the 26, and it could be shortened to exact length or thread specs (if I opt to go for a brake).

The 26" barrels are normally UK barrels and have 1 in 12 twist. I like the 1 in 10 twist better. Currently I have a 24" 1 in 10 AINA, 24" AI UK 1 in 12 and a 20" AINA 1 in 10. But then I do have more than one AI rifle.
My vote would be leave the 26" and pick up a 20" AINA. You can find them in the PX here sometimes at good prices.

FYI. My 26" AIAW barrel is lighter than my 20" AIAW barrel. The profiles are completely different and the 20" is much thicker diameter. I'm not a huge fan of cutting barrels myself. I'd just get one made for you from a reputable smith in the length and profile you want.

I have a 24" 1-12" LW on my AE and it is a laser. If I were you I'd shorten that barrel if it shoots good. If it doesn't shoot that well or has over 5,000-6,000 rounds through it I'd consider buying a new barrel.

JMHO. If you're happy with the barrel so far I'd say stick with it.
