AIAT

I'm good, thanks.

I'm not a guy who spends 6 hours dialing triggers down to 8 oz.

Aim. Squeeze. Break.

Doesn't matter if it's a 6 oz trigger or 6 lb.

Fair enough, fundamentals are fundamentals. But having a trigger that fits you is pretty important, as it's the most important interface that links the shooter to the rifle. I see a lot of value in an adjustable trigger, to get it to fit ME just the way I like it. And it takes ~10 minutes, not 6 hours.

If the AT trigger works for you, then rock on.

I just bought my first centerfire comp rifle (AT). I’m coming from the rimfire world(Anschutz). I was worried about the factory trigger when I bought the rifle(sight unseen). The factory trigger is a little heavier than what I’m used to but it breaks so clean! I thought I would have to immediately opt for the comp trigger but I’m actually pretty happy with the factory trigger for now. When I drop a shot, I like to remove all variables except for myself. I feel like my AT provides exactly that service...Aside from the nice trigger and impressive accuracy, I also trust that the rifle will feed flawlessly and I don’t have to baby it or worry about it getting dirty or abused. I thought about building a custom but decided to go with the AT and could not be happier!

I know I just got some shooting buddies who sit at home with their scale and brag about the 5oz triggers, then get surprised every time they break a shot early ?

Personally I prefer a trigger on the heavier side, as mech_emg said about, it breaks clean and you gotta pull it a bit. The ai trigger pulls trough the first stage, stops at the second, then a bit more pressure breaks. Super consistent for me.

I did buy a used AT here though that someone "adjusted" and it felt like a giant Glock trigger. Couple fiddles with the Allen wrench brought the 2nd stage back up to that normal feel.

As some here can verify, I have tried a vast majority of actions, triggers, chassis, etc.

I bought an AT a couple months ago and shot my first match with it Sunday.

After all the rifles I’ve been through, unless someone wants to pay me more than I can buy another AI for new, it’s not for sale.

The chassis does limit options as noted above, but if it fits you, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

I've probably owned them all at some point. Every action stock combination within reason, including 3 AI's. I really prefer the feel of a fiberglass/carbon stock. I cant imagine not owning an AI though, there will always be one in my safe. My all time favorite is an Altus built Impact/Proof in a KMW Sentinel. Ergos of the KMW are very similar to the AT/AW but just more comfortable in my opinion, you can see the pic below of the AT next to the KMW. An AI action in a KMW would be my dream rifle!

If u could build a DBM, your dream could come true. I know McMillan would enlet it if they had the action and dbm.

If I end up with a fixed stock version how hard would it be to convert it to a folding stock later down the road?

Is it an option to pick up such a thing from one of the guys upgrading to the AX buttstock?

Yes. I sold the factory folder off my rifle to someone who converted their fixed stock to folder.

I am going to be converting my AIAT folder to the AX stock so if you find a fixed stock AT I should have a folder available soon.

As a side note I had a custom and sold it to get another AI. I just prefer the AI.

The factory ai trigger can be "fiddled" with a bit too. Just make sure to drop test it
I need to adjust my ax I think it has some creep
also have issues with the barrels getting loose when hot.

At this point I like my DT more than the AX. Easier to shoot well. Better trigger. No problems with barrel getting loose

1/4 turn of the sear screw fixed the little bit of creep on my AX. Call Mile High, they’ll walk you through it.

I haven’t had an issue myself, but some have said they need 55-65 in-lbs of torque on the Quick Loc screw instead of the factory recommended 49 in-lbs. I don’t see any harm in bumping it up incrementally to see if it takes a little more torque to make that issue go away.

When I got into this game 5 or 6 years ago I was headed down the path of custom but there were too many variables and it looked like a lot of guys were selling their customs because they didn’t get it right either. The AI was a relief by comparison - didn’t see many for sale and when I did they were holding value - and there were really no options once you picked the model. I bought an AXMC and other than it being heavy I couldn’t imagine ever replacing it or selling it. I bought an AT a few years later so my son and I could shoot together - just as accurate - just as reliable.

Late last year I decided to get a custom - I now know more of what I want and thought it’d be good to have something 4-5 lbs lighter for either hunting or specific matches. I chose a Manners PRS 2 with a Proof barrel, Curtis Axiom and Timney Calvin Elite - I also added a full arca swiss rail from 419. It’s extremely accurate - and about 4 lbs lighter. I love the way it shoots and while the lighter weight makes it easier to position it also makes spotting and follow up harder.

So - I’ve got a custom I love but it won’t replace either AI.

I haven’t tried the AI Comp trigger - I really like the OEM trigger and imagine the comp trigger is AI’s attempt to be more competitive with the custom match triggers.

Assuming a guy was happy with a little extra weight and never had any desire to shoot anything other than 308 parent case short action rounds.....

Has there ever been anyone that bought an AI AT and ended up wishing they had built a custom rifle instead? If so, I’d love to hear why.
Umm, hell to the no. That is all...

I wanted to take a second to thank everyone for their valuable feedback in this thread. It really helped me make up my mind. Like most, I have had lots of different rifles... all have been interesting and precise, but I haven’t ever had any regrets selling any of them to try something new. My wife and I had a set of beautiful twin girls a little over a year ago, and things have really changed for me. My focus has shifted to making the most out of my very limited time. That means having one really nice rifle, and getting good at shooting it.

I ended up purchasing a “one owner low miles” AT in 6.5 Creed. Got the can timed, scope mounted, and been dry firing and fiddling with the stock all afternoon. No cognitive dissonance with this purchase so far. The stock trigger is solid as hell. And hot damn, the AW mag is so easy to load.

OP, if the AT fits what you want in the long run, just get it. Then don't look back. Just make sure it's what you want.

I wasn't a fan of the grip like someone else said and that's why I sold both of mine.

With the new AT-X, I can put on any AR grip I want.

Overall, AI is the best on the market and has been for years in terms of out of the box reliability and just plain working.

You'll get more features with the custom builds, but are they worth the tradeoff in potential issues that you may need a gunsmith to fix?

I installed a competition trigger on an AT but beside being light, it did not make me feel real improvement over the stock AI trigger. It didn’t make the rifle shoot better either (of course everyone’s experience may differ). I ended up putting back the original trigger and sold the competition one. I found a stock AI trigger, whether on AE, AW, AT, or AX, can be easily adjusted to one’s liking and I am not mechanically inclined.

The new trigger on the AXSR is an entirely different animal. I thought AI triggers cannot be improved until I tried AXSR. The only comparable trigger in my experience has been a well adjusted Geissele Hi-speed National Match trigger.
