AIAW conversion question

The problem is you need a .300 WM bolt face. It'll be easier to sell a 338 AW, find a 300 WM AW and then convert it than to get a 300 WM bolt.

Re: AIAW conversion question

Does AI not offer 300wm bolts separately? There are not many AW 300wm rifles floating around. There's been 4 or 5 AW 338lm's for sale in the classifieds in the last 6 months. The 338's have been going for good prices, it would tempting to get one if 300wm bolts were readily available.

Is this for sure? The reason I ask is the question was presented in the following post and one gentlemen said that he had found bolts sold separately?

If this information is untrue, how would one go about replacing the bolt if needed? Just curious.

Thanks

Re: AIAW conversion question

He's international. Sporting Services is one of the European dealers of AI items. What AI UK does is sometimes different than AINA. We have .260 and 6.5 Creedmoor guns over here, they don't. They may be able to get parts easier there but we have a harder time.

Trust me, if we could get bolts and other spare parts we would be very flush with them.

If you need to replace a bolt for failure, you would have to contact AINA for a warranty or a very costly replacement.

Re: AIAW conversion question

I was asking because I thought I had read that Zak Smith had done something like this. And like jpspeedemon said, there have been a few AWs for sale at very attractive prices.

Re: AIAW conversion question

Here is the situation regarding the conversion of AW338 to 300 whether it be in the UK or the USA. It is possible to convert from AW338 to AW300 by changing the barrel, magazine and bolt body assembly. That means you can use your existing firing pin and shroud assembly. We do not sell bolt heads separately to ensure integrity of that critical assembly for safety reasons.
The work can be carried out by AINA, or anyone who has the ability to carry out a barrel change with the appropriate tools.

Re: AIAW conversion question

Mr. Irwin,

Is it possible to get a whole 300wm bolt assembly (bolt, shroud, firing pin, etc) in the US?

It seems from previous responses that it can not be done.

People are only concerned with thee bolt because a barrel and 300wm mags are more available.
