Well, it's been a few months since purchasing my new AIAX, and being that they are still relatively rare, I thought it was time for a quick update. The original review can be found here: http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2436394&page=1

As of today, my AIAX has 1117 rounds through it. I feel I can offer a more grounded opinion of the platform, and I can confidently say that this rifle is "it."

Accuracy- it is an AI, basically an AW bolt, action, and barrel, so performance is as you would expect from an AI- .5 moa or better. I have focused on more practical shooting with this rifle than group shooting, but I have done a fair bit of group shooting while in load development, and multiple .25 moa 5 round groups were shot.

Ease of shooting- this is where the rifle really shines. It is so easy to get behind the gun and get a stable position. the ergonomics are really good, and the quick adjustments are great. The quick adjust buttplate is excellent- as in Maine there can be 40 degree swings in one day, and being able to adjust for different layers is quick and easy.

The butt spike is fantastic. I prefer to combine it with a Tac Ball, using the spike for gross elevation adjustments and the bag for micro elevation requirements. This has been a very fast system that is versatile in most all shooting scenarios.

Other notes (trying to keep this short and not redundant in relation to my last review.) It is a very natural platform to use. JBell (who I shoot with frequently) can get behind it and get comfortable, despite very little time on the platform. The ultimate example is this- my 12 year old stepson, shooting prone for the first time and shooting centerfire for the first time, posted a 1 MOA 5 round group at 230 yards with it last weekend. A pic of the event, to close:

Footnote- the ONLY complaint I have is the weight. It is not overly heavy for a tactical rifle, but equipped with the suppressor, bipod, 5-25x56 PM2, etc, it is 17 pounds. Very heavy to shoot offhand.

It is a beast. Throw on a load of kit and try lugging that through Helmand povince in the summer. Then try running when the SHTF. If they could take the weight down it would make it an even better platform.

This AX is heavier than my AW, but because the folder adds weight, the spike adds weight, the QA adds weight. All those options are worth it too, by the way.

Man that's a sweet stock. I really like how the AIAX acts like a barrel shroud. Especially with your 18.5" barrel.
Just when I fall in love with my AICS 2.0 another cool product hits the market.
I'll have to consider this AIAX on my next 300WM build.
Thanks for the review. Great pics.

thanx for the follow up report </div></div>I didn't buy it because of it's looks, that's for sure.

Re: AIAX- 1000 round update

Just to add to BM's post:
The rifle is heavy but in a ballanced easy to handle sort of way. It is much easier to pick up, hold or carry than the AW (a round dowell is easier to hold than a 2x4).

I thought they were uguly at first and in the pics before getting to see one in person, but it is starting to grow on me especially after appling the make up.

Re: AIAX- 1000 round update

Don't think I can persuade my local Police here in the UK that I "need" another .308 (gun control issue!). But if I could, this would almost certainly be the one.

Thanks for the great review and follow up bm11 - from a proud (but slightly jealous) AW owner

Tell them they can fondel it when you get it. You will even let them shoot it a couple times. If that did not work just say please do not make me cry. lol

Thanks guys....love to, but....

Back when I bought the AW I had intended to get a .338LM AW but then it was effectively banned by restrictions on "High Muzzle Energy" rifles in use by civilian shooters on UK ranges....fortunately AI understood and my .338 became a .308

There are now only about three ranges in the UK that I am aware of where "recreational shooters" can shoot .338 or .50 and they are all just about as far away from where I live as it is possible to get.

Combine that with the requirement to shoot (and prove you have shot) every rifle you own a minimum of three times a year and you get the the idea......

Re: AIAX- 1000 round update

TJ - yes, miles....but looking at it, probably not much further than Bisley. although maybe a little harder to reach

Somebody mentioned Andrew to me a few weeks ago.....definitley worth checking out! Thanks.

Re: AIAX- 1000 round update

I can also reccommend WSM,

Plus there are MANY more ranges than 3 that are ok for .338 in the UK, i reccommend you check out the FCSA.

Give me a shout if you need more info.
